Question about 2004 Mazda MPV

2004 Mazda MPV cabin air is just not getting hot enough.

The cabin air doesnt get hot enough in cold weather. the gauge reads normal temperature for the engine. I drive for an hour and its still just blows low heat. The heat meter is all the way to the right clock wise. If I open the vent the cabin feels like I have the a/c on. A/C button is not on. I see other people have the same problem but no solution. Thermostat might be the problem but other blogs say that this didnt fix the problem. Is this just a common problem with the 2004 Mazda mpv. What should I do without spending money unecesarily.

Cabin airfilter definately helped clean the air and a noticable change in tempearature but its still doesnt get hot quick enough in very cold temperature. I guess I will try the thermostat change next. Thanks for your help. I will come back with updates.

Ok so im back. Thank you for this blog. I finally solved the no heat problem. Even though summer is knocking at the door. Atleast m ready for next winter lol. As x18eheeler60 said earlier, I changed the thermostat wich didnt make a difference, but I happen to be changing an ignition coil while at the mechanic and he noticed as the intake manifold was off that the heater control valve nicely hiiden way in the back by the firewall was almost all the way up which menat that whoever had the vehicle before me must have wanted it that way. It didnt allow the heat to come in like I wanted it to. He adjusted the lever all the way down and now the freaking heat is on like fire woe. It heats up in less than a minute when I start up my car now and it feels like my wifes hot blow dryer. WHy didnt I try that first. Well thanks to x18wheeler60 and this site we all ca share our experience and knowledge and save some of that dealer money. By the way. I changed the ignition coil and the vehicle is responding like a horse right now. No more Stalling and low power. Im really loving this vehicle now. It drives like a race car now. Not that a race in the mean streets in NY but im sure if I did and if it was legal I probably can hang for about half a block until I remember im driving a minivan lol(can you tell im excited) lol. Anyway. I hope my blog was helpful. Viva the 2004 mazda mpv.

Thank you so much! Luckly my husband didn't have to take off the intake manifold to reach our heater control valve, but the lever on it was up. As soon as he put it in the down position it worked great. We are so happy to have found this site!

If changing the thermostat didn't work, have the heater control valve checked, it may not be opening all the way to let the coolant circulate thru the heater core fully.

We had the same problem a few months ago. As it turns out there is a cabin filter behind the glove box that was seriously dirty and plugged. We removed it and my wife cleaned it with soap and water...and now our heat has returned!

2004 explorer, a/c is charged, clutch is spinning, will not cycle on and off

It will not cycle until the temperature in the cabin is low enough. In hot weather they will run continuously.

1989 mpv mazda does not start on cold mornings and days

I'm assuming the engine cranks with the starter but does not start and run.

check the operation of the cold start injector. This is a separate fuel injector that injects fuel into the intake manifold to help richen up the mixture for cold starts. It operates on a timer that is linked to a sensor that measures engine coolant temperature. Once warm or the timer runs out, the cold start injector is turned off. Other things to check:

Fuel pressure too high (floods engine through cold start injector), engine coolant temp sensor or intake air temp sensor is stuck at full hot (doesn't allow enough fuel for cold starts), fuel injectors are leaking (floods engine with fuel).

After a cold start, I don't get cabin heat for about 15 minutes. The heat gauge starts at C (cold), rises to normal operating temperature, then rises to just under the H (hot) for about 30 seconds, at...

Check for low coolant, you might also have a sticking thermostat. Alot of fords get air pockets, make sure if it needs coolant to let it run for about 10-15 min with the radiator cap off.

Mazda eunos leaking cold water, engine running hot and smells like burning rubber, temp gage is not showing a problem. Could it be the themosat?

Unless your gauge is faulty you engine probably is not overheated. Any vehicle engine at normal operating temperature is hot. I'm guessing but I bet your normal operating temperature is about 185 degrees. You say it is "leaking cold water". Were you using the air conditioner when this took place? If so that is normal condensation. As for the burning smell I would look at the exaust area to see if a piece of trash has caused it.

My 2004 Mazda MPV AC does not seem to be working it blows air out but not as cold as it should be - any ideas - it seemed cold enough last week

My 2004 MPV was just diagnosed with a corroded aluminum line to the rear cabin air-con unit. It cost me $50 to get the unit leak-checked. Also got a $700 estimate to replace the line.

Does 2004 Mazda MPV ES equip with a cabin air filter?

(cabin filter solution) Their is an cabin airfiliter behind the glove compartment (2004 mazda mpv) which is very easy to take off. Replace the airfilter or clean it with soap and water. Open the glove box and on the bottom left had side of the glove box if you apply enough presure on it by pulling it out towards you and slightly down it should pop off. The right side should slide out immediately following the left side pop. All it is, is a fork like claw holding on to a bar. On the ride side is a bar sliding into a hole. That should do the trick. After the first time its a sinch.
