Heat selector switch?

I can only get air to blow out of the defrost, i can't get it to floor level or mix. is my selector switch bad?

The switch might be bad, but if it's vacuum operated, there is a vacuum operated diaphram
under the dashboard that operates a door to close
the air from defrost to direct it to floor or mix.It's possible there might might be an air leak.

Why wont my 2001 ford windstar blow out of vents ? only on defrost?


Air Flow Control
Air flow control is accomplished in the following manner:
  • Primary control is through the function selector knob , mounted on the heater function selector switch, which is part of the heater control .
  • The function selector knob has the following positions: OFF, PANEL, PANEL/FLOOR, FLOOR, FLOOR/DEFROST and DEFROST.
  • The heater function selector switch combines a vacuum selector valve with an internal electrical switch.
  • The vacuum selector valve directs source vacuum to various vacuum control motors (18A318) . Refer to the System Airflow Schematic and Vacuum Control Charts.
  • An internal single-pole electrical switch is also controlled by the selector. The switch controls the electrical supply to the heater blower motor switch (18578) .
  • The position of the function selector knob determines the manner in which the system will operate.
  • Each position of the function selector knob is detented for positive engagement.
  • You probably have a vacuum leak , Pull heater control panel an check for vacuum . A broke vacuum hose or The vacuum selector valve is bad ! Or check for a vacuum hose in the engine compartment being off somewhere !

My ac on my 1998 oldsmobile 88 won't blow out the be-level what could it be


I believe you mean "BI-LEVEL" mode, which means it should blow air simultaneously out of the dashboard registers and the lower register. The Temperature of the air blowing out of both of them is regulated by the temperature preset.
Does the fan still blow when you move the switch to BI-LEVEL? If it does but the air comes out of the DEFROST registers, that means your diverter is not functioning correctly, most likely due to a vacuum leak under the dash. If the fan shuts off in BI-LEVEL mode but still operates in HEAT mode, your selector module is bad. If the fan shuts off in BI-LEVEL mode and in HEAT mode, either your engine coolant is not hot enough to provide heat (automatic function), or the temperature sensor for your climate control system has failed.

The selector knob for the heat and air unit in my Sentra ( the one that directs air from the dash to the floor or defrost) turns but it doesnt change the direction of the air flo


This is usually caused by the selector switch being bad on the car. You will need to change the switch for it to work again.

Air Conditioner Will not turn on Recirculation


there is a selector motor on the side of the heat ac coil box under the dash. it should have 2 or 3 levers on the side of it. it controls the dampeners the select where your air is moving to from the defrost to the bi level to the floor or all of the above find that control module and then turn the car on and start moving the selector switch back and forth slowly while watching that module if its moving the levers then you have a more serious problem and need to have a professional look at it. check to make sure that the levers are even connected and that the wiring harness is even hooked to the control module

How to fix no heat in 95 aurora olds. and a/c stays on with defrost on.


The A/C compressor is supposed to run in defrost mode. The only modes the compressor won't cycle is floor only and face only. This is to keep the seals in the system lubed during the winter.

If you don't have heat, check the coolant level. If the level is low you won't have heat.

Sounds like your selector switch is messed up to select where you want the flow of air to go. When you turn the switch to where you want the air to go does it work on floor and when you turn the switch to vent it doesn't?

I have the same problem with my windstar blower is fine but is coming cold air but no heat i dont know what to do can any one show me how to fix it thnx


First, feel the heater hoses going into the firewall under the hood. If they are hot, then you have hot engine coolant going into the heater core. If they are not hot, then you either have a bad thermostat or you are very low on engine coolant.

Next you need air flowing through the heater core so it can come out heated through your vents. If the iar is flowing somewhere else, your temp blend door is not moving because the bend door motor is bad or your temp knob on your heater controls is bad. The blend door motor is an electric motor.

Temperature Control

  • Temperature control of the heater system is determined by the position of the temperature control knob (between COOL-BLUE and WARM-RED) of the heater control .
  • This control knob is connected to a potentiometer mounted in the heater control . This potentiometer is electrically connected to the electric blend door actuator that operates the A/C air temperature control door.

  • Movement of the control knob from COOL (Blue) to WARM (Red) causes a corresponding movement on the air temperature control door and determines the temperature that the system will maintain.
System uses a reheat method to provide conditioned air to the passenger compartment.
  • All airflow from the blower motor (18527) passes through the A/C evaporator housing .
  • Temperature is then regulated by reheating a portion of the air and blending it with the remaining cool air to the desired temperature.
  • Temperature blending is varied by the air temperature control door, which regulates the amount of air that flows through and/or around the heater core (18476) , where it is then mixed and distributed.

You did check for vacuum lines off, or wiring harnesses not plugged in all the way, or at all didn't you? Did you pay someone to do this, or do it yourself, because if you paid someone, have them look at all the connections .
