Replacing water pump on a 1993 jeep grand cherokee

My Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ 8 cylinder engine has started making a noise in the front. Appears to be coming from the small wheel in the top center of the serpentine belt, my best guess is the water pump is going out on it. I'm looking for a ''1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Serpentine Belt Routing'' so I can correctly remove it to get to the water pump. Unfortunately cash flow dictates that I do the repair myself. I'm confident I can do it, but it has been years since I've had to do any major repairs on my auto's myself. Any advice would be appreciated

If it is the idler pulley and not the water pump what will I need to do about the noise. Is it more or less involved than the water pump? If I don't have to drain the antifreeze in this weather that would be a good thing. I'm going to look up the part at autozone while I wait for your answer,

Are you sure its water pump? it kind of sounds like your not sure. is there any visable leaks? if no leaks, that noise you hear could be that idler pulley your talking about. what you need to do is loosen the belt(witch there should be a spring loaded tennioner pully that you got to move to get belt off) once you get belt off spin all pulleys that the belt runs on and see if there noisey, or excessively loose, even fan blade, if fan blade moves alot back and forth than its time to replace water pump( fan is bolted to water pump),( it will move a little thats normal) i'am betting its not the pump, its most likely one of them idler pulleys. now if you need a belt routing diagram, advance auto, autozone, or any other major auto parts stores have web sites you can go on to get one, or you can get one from your local auto parts store, sense you will have to go there for a part any how. if you need anymore help just ask, i'll help you as much as i can. good luck. well first thing you need to do is make sure thats whats wrong before you get the part, i am not there, thats why i told you to take off the belt and chk. to see if any of the pullys are loose or make noise, like a bad bearing would make. now there might be 2, one they call idler, it might be bolted fast but will spin, the other one will be the one thats on a spring tensoner to loosen belt, now there might just be one, either way both can be unbolted and taken off so you can take them with you to the parts store. i am trying to get this from memory and its not what it use to be. youl have to bear with me. its way less involved than waterpump no draining coolant, just the belt and 1or 2 bolts if its idler or tensoner. if you get in a pinch just give me holler and i'll try to help. yes it most certainly can, thick oil can block hydrolic lifters and make tappets become loose and even fail. that is a good start point because the next is a worn cam shaft

It sounds like a loose serpentine belt. Check the belt for cracking or frayed edges. It may need to be replaced or simply tightened.
If the sound is minimal or gone when the engine is idling, and you hear it whine when you step on the gas, then the belt is probably your issue.

I need to know where the tensor is for my 1993 jeep grand cherokee

Look at the front of engine, The tension roller is the top roller at the water pump. It should have only 1 bolt and it's center of the roller. You will need a socket, wrench and a pull handle for leverage.
