Question about 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL 500

Open Question

I am looking to buy a Mercedes GL 500, model 2009. One of checks a friend of mine does before buying a second hand car is to start the engine and then open the hood and remove the oil cap, according to him if oil bubble out then it is not a good sign. When we did that with the GL I was interested in, oil bubbled out. Is oil bubbling out any indicator of engine problems?

SOURCE: Open Hood warning, and wiper blades.

There is a switch on your hood latch. They get damaged sometimes when the hood opens and closes. look down on the latch and you will see the sensor with an electrical plug. There are two 10mm bolts holding the latch in. remove them and the sensor is in the latch.

SOURCE: engine oil light came on, on my mercedes ML 350, 2006 model.

IT MEANS THAT YOUR OIL LEVEL IS VERY LOW AND NEEDS TO BE FILLED. CHECK THE OIL LEVEL WITH THE DIPSTICK IF EQUIPPED. IF NOT, THEN ADD 1 OR 2 QUARTS OF OIL TO SEE IF THE OIL LIGHT GOES OFF. IT MAY TAKE SYNTHETIC OIL SO DON'T PUT CONVENTIONAL OIL IN IT IF YOU SEE A MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL RECOMMENDATION STICKER UNDER THE HOOD. IF YOU ARE UNSURE THEN BRING IT TO A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN A.S.A.P.. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK.

SOURCE: Engine Coolant Temperature Light came on

whats happening is your a/c is putting an extra load on the engine. it happens with any car. that generates extra heat. it is possible that you need your coolant topped off, but chances are that your car would have overheated before if that were the case. what i would recommend is to first check to see if the coolant level is good. if it is, then get the car up to operating temperature and check to see if the cooling fans on your radiator are working. if not, it may be a bad fan, or just a fuse or relay. if that doesnt solve your problem, have the thermostat changed out for a new one. theyre pretty inexpensive. second, if you or someone you know has the know-how, remove the radiator, plug the fittings for the transmission cooler if it has any, and use a power washer to clean the radiator out. sometimes dirt can accumilate there over time and it wont let the heat dissipate properly. a coolant flush wont be bad for your car, but probably wont make your problem go away.

Hi. I have 2007 Mercedes GL450 , Can you help me with oil change and oil filter change. Please tell me How to do it properly? The nearest Mercedes service is over 500 km. thanks alot, A

BEST TO LET DEALERSHIP CHANGE ENGINE OIL.YOU NEED A DEALERSHIP OIL FILTER.YOUR OIL FILTER INSIDE A HOUSING ON FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. CHANGING YOUR OWN OIL NOT HARD.YOU NEED 9 QUARTS OF OIL LOOK INSIDE GLOVECOMPARTMENT FOR OWNERS MANUAL TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE OIL YOU NEED TO USE AND HOW MANY QUARTS.IF YOU DONT CHECK READ MANUAL TO SEE WHAT OIL TYPE AND QUARTS YOU NEED. IF YOU BLOW OR DAMAGE THE ENGINE WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE ENGINE.FIRST OF ALL TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL YOU CRANK VECHICLE UP LET IDLE FEW MINUTES TO THIN OUT OIL THEN YOU TURN OFF ENGINE. YOU NEED TO RAISE VECHICLE USING THE FACTORY JACK.USE JACK STANDS. LOOK IN OWNERS FOR CAR JACK LIFTING LOCATIONS TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING ROCKER PANELS. AND PLACE A DRAIN PAN UNDER THE OIL PAN. UNDER THE VECHICLE.YOU NEED A WRENCH TO REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG.WHEN ALL THE OLD OIL DRAIN OUT IN THE DRAIN PAN.SCREW BACK IN THE DRAIN PLUG TIGHTEN IT DONT OVER TIGHTEN STRIP THREADS.THEN YOU NEED SOCKET TYPE OIL WRENCH YOU USE WITH A 3/8 RATCHET WRENCH REMOVE OIL FILTER HOUSING.PLACE RAGS AROUND THE OIL FILTER HOUSING TO CATCH OIL SPILL. YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE OIL FILTER AND FILTER HOUSING O RINGS. ONCE YOU GET NEW OIL FILTER AND O - RINGS INSTALL THEM IN THE OIL FILTER HOUSING.LOCATED OIL FILLER CAP ON VALVE COVER UNDER THE HOOD.REMOVE OIL FILLER CAP.POUR OIL IN ENGINE USING A FUNNEL.ENGINE HOLDS ABOUT 8.5 TO 9.0 QUARTS OIL. BUT LOOK IN THE OWNERS MANUAL CHECK HOW MANY QUARTS ENGINE NEED.CHECK OIL DIP STICK OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK ON THE ENGINE OIL DIP STICK.TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE BUY 10 QUARTS OF OIL FOR A EXTRA.DONT OVER FILL MAKE SURE YOUR OIL LEVEL CORRECT.OIL DRAIN PLUG AND OIL FILTER TIGHT BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.LOOK IN THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR OIL DIP STICK AND LOCATION.

Used Mercedes Benz GL450 2007

over 80% of mercedes ever made are still on the road in use, only volvo can beat this fact with over 90%.
keep it serviced at 10k intervals, and it should last 30 plus years.
bodywork is galvanised,so look after paintwork(1 dent/scratch will knock over $1000 off the price...)only buy if full leather and keep it fed.

Thinking of buying this car

Got my GL 320 CDI in Jan. Drove it to Amelia Island, FL this Easter from Michigan and had 2500 miles at the time. 500 miles into the trip, 2 problems showed up. 1. low oil level warning indicator went on a total of 6-7 times for the round trip. I suspect the dealer I got it from did not hand over the veh to me with a full tank of oil. I had to put in 2 quarts on the way to FL. Had it checked at a MB dealer in JAX and they said there was no leak. The low oil level warning came on again on our trip back to MI but the oil levels were full. 2. The worst problem was that the shock absorber on my right rear wheel was defective. Noticed the problem on the way to FL when I stopped to check the oil level. Watch out for a metal-to-metal grinding noise. It is not the brakes! We had a fully loaded vehicle with 4 occupants and a Thule luggage carrier on top. I didn't know the shock absorber was the problem until I had the Jacksonville dealer take a look at it. Found out there are over 70+ SA's on backorder across the US. Tells me there may be a defective shock absorber problem. Since I needed a new one right away to make the return trip to MI, the dealer pulled a GL off their lot and transferred the SA to my vehicle. Thank God! Drove fine the rest of the way ty that may stress the front end bushings, etc.
