If the car behaves after engaging gears and drives ok then I doubt if fuel is the problem. I would be looking at a faulty clutch m/cyl or a failing clutch plate

SOURCE: 1989 cavalier z24 dies at stops and transmission kicks!

I had the same problem with my 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with the Automatic transmission. There is an electric lock up clutch within the torque converter that engages at roughly 35mph. It's designed to give the car better highway mileage. If that circuit fails, the clutch will remain in the "locked" position when hot, and stalls the car unless neutral is engaged and the car comes to a complete stop. I remember the car making all sorts of odd noise with this malfunction. I took mine to the dealership and they had it repaired in an hour.

My daughter had a similar problem with her 1988 Cavalier Z24 with the manual 4-speed transmission. There is a speed sensor on the top of the transmission that I replaced which solved the problem for her.

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Yes....check your fluid level. It sounds low. Does it do it in a turn when you step on the gas as you are turning, slip?

Yes it could and the transmission could need more transmission fluid and you should change the fluid and filter every 35,000 miles.

What would make my car surge while sitting a light or cuting off

All kinds of things. I'd suggest you have the codes read; it may have thrown codes that tell you what's going on.
Things I can think of:
- Change the fuel filter; sometimes if it is dirty enough, it will affect fuel flow
- Check the Mass Air Flow device -- sounds complicated, but on many cars, cleaning it is something you can do yourself in a few minutes; look up the process on-line. When this gets dirty, the car can't properly sense how much air is going into the cylinders.

When i put it in drive it jerks real hard

Inspect first the automatic transmission fluid. It may need replacing as well as the filer. Observe the jerking if it occurs on certain speed, it may just be an issue within a specific gear. Its valve may be dirty and need cleaning. This may also be cause by bad fuel lines or dirty fuel filter which causes inconsistent flow of fuel. Check also the engine support and mounts of the engine and transmission. They may be worn out. The jerking could be from the actual **** of the engine because it is not held in place correctly.

After i filled my 2004 hyundai xg350 last nite and parked for half hour then drove hime ,it stalled ,but rstrated right away, but kind of jerked a little bit, when applying gas. after that i drove home...

Absolutely, a dirty fuel filter could cause that. You may also check your air filter, a dirty air filter can cause a bad fuel/air mix ratio, which can have similar results to a dirty fuel filter.

I hope this helps you.

Runs ruff

There could be two reasons for the car to run ruff. The fuel and the current. If the fuel is not regular the running may be in jerks. And so would run if the current is not regular either. You must check up both these systems. The plugs could be dirty. The fuel pump could be dirty too. The injectors could be dirty as well. They all need cleaning.

2003 4cyl Santa Fe has intermitent jerking that sometimes results in stalling. Increasing in frequency. Recently had tune up, new belts and fuel line clean out. This jerking was happening before tune up...

Scan for codes. Discribe when it jerks! Under a load, going up hill, pulling away from a stop? Does it shift okey? Possibilities--Bad ignition coils, Bad Throttle Position Sensor, Bad EGR Valve,Dirty Throttle Body ETC.

It jerks alot while driving. It jerked so hard that it knocked it out of cruise controll.Could it be a fuel filter?

Yes. Check your fuel system completely.
The fuel filter is dirty or the fuel pump is loosing power.

My 95 ford thunderbird V8 LX bogs down when i get to the top of a hill and then i can not give it any gas it just jerks.

It is probably the fuel pump which involves cleaning the tank. YOu can also change the fuel filter which will be attached to the line running from the fuel tank to the engine. Usually midway on the vehicle. this is the cheapest thing to try. the only other possibility is dirty injectors

Accelerating problem

It sounds like your Fuel pressure regulator is going bad. Check the vacum line to the regulator. A dirty fuel filter will do the samething but hope it's not the Injection system. Good luck
