if you know about 91 4runners you would know the starter relay is on the letf side above the fuse block and not on the right side under the glove box NO HELP AT ALL

  • montehammons Jan 12, 2013

Fair enough. I don't claim to know anything about the lay-out of a 4runner. You came here asking for help with a car not starting, and I made an honest attempt to help. End of story, jack!

The click you heard may have been the starter relay. If it was, it is probably bad. See if a new one helps. If not, then the wiring in the start circuit will have to be investigated.

SOURCE: Turn key to start - nothing happens

I had same problem w/ my '88 Ram50. Turned out to be bad contacts on the battery cables. Temp fix and test was to put a little screw between the post and the end connector. Didn't have a problem then, so I replaced the cables.

Engine will not turnover

If you are hearing clicks when you turn the key and if you know where the starter is, get under there and tap it with a hammer. Sounds archaic but when they start to go bad they stick. When you turn the key, the starter acts like the old hand crank you see in movies to spin the engine. When you release the key the starter believes it did its job and goes dormant. Anyway, if you hear clicks when you turn the key and if it starts after hitting it that is likely your problem.

Car not starting turn key nothing happens has power

There should be a starter relay under the hood in the fuse box, get someone to bump the key and listen for it to close the circuit. the description should say PCM/ECM/STARTER something along those lines. If it doesn't click you may want to swap it for another in the fuse panel and retry. Be sure to check the fuse for the start circuit. The starter circuit is control by a module so there is no direct wire from the ignition switch straight to the starter. If you hear it click then you may want to use a test light and check for voltage at the starter (small wire on solenoid) while someone else bumps the key.

98 grand prix won't start battery good tried jump start nothing removed glove box relay clicking ? checked fuses under hood in fuss box all good will not turn over clicking noise from relay...

Better check with a test light for power to the small wire that goes to the starter from the key switch. If no power need to check for a neutral safety switch or fuse. Or the starter you got is bad. Alternator will not cause not to crank over

I have a 2005 Tahoe with 43,000 miles and it will not start. It is not the battery. When you turn on the key all it will do is click and all light will come on.

Most likely the battery--even though you say no

If the battery is new ,then the solenoid on the starter
or the starter it's self

My 1997 chrysler town and country van was running fine until this afternoon. After I stopped and pulled the key out I heard a clicking sound under the hood (around the fuse box). Since then it won't start....

It is highly possible that battery is just dead. This also happened to me on my 97 Jeep Cherokee. I started it in the morning with no issue what so ever, then when i went to go start it again a short while later it was the same issue your having. I tried to jumpstart it and nothing. The clicking noise your hearing is from the starter itself which is perfectly normal when you have a dead battery. That is why your lights dim when you try to start it. It is because when your trying to turn over the starter your having a power drain from whatever is left in the almost dead battery but it doesn't have enough power to turn the starter. Also that is why when you tried to jumpstart it and it didn't work, the battery is just too dead to accept the charge passing through it. Replace the battery and all will be fine. A good name brand battery costs roughly $70-$100 depending on the brand of the battery. I personally have had nothing but good luck with Duralast and Interstate batteries. Good luck. Happy motoring.

if you turn headlights on and turn key to start do you hear clicking? if so starter is possibly bad, lets trouble shoot your problem.suggest you check the fuses under hood in black box, make sure those are good. when you turn the key, you should hear at least a click or else the starter is not drawing current.try turning the headlights on and at same time turn the key and try to start, if lights go dim the starter is drawing current, does it click? if so then bad starter. if no noise at all,,still could be a bad starter.suggest that you remove the starter and have it checked out.also make sure the car is in park for sure before you do any of this. hope this helps!!

Popping sound from near glove box in dash in 2008 Impala

This is the location of your BcM or Body control Mod. This controls all the things you are talking about. Lights, flashers, door locks trunk lock, that clicking you are hearing is a relay turning something on. So Lets say you are driving and it starts to get dark your BcM will change your driving lights to full night time mode, turning lights on, on your dash. Now you have Bright and dim functions. There is a sensor in the dash up front in the windshield that senses dark/light and does this. That is what you hear, a relay in your BcM clicking off/on some function of the car.

ck your clutch pedal switch if it is open circuit it won't let the starter engage you can unplug it and jump the the two wires if this doesn't engage the starter you have a bad starter relay and it is located in the fuse box under the hood

5 series Battery drain.

Hi, you will need to remove the passenger side kick panel under the dash then you will be able to see the side of the heater box, you should be able to see a black milti plug with a 2.5mm red and white wire, if you unplug this you will see the casing for the resistor, this just un clips from the heater box and remove, replacement is just the reverse, hope this helps or if you get stuck just ask for more help, mark.
