Question about 2004 Saturn ION
This sounds to me like your battery is dieing. keep in mind that your starter draws a lot of amps and your radio and lights do not. your best bet is to take your battery out of your vehicle and down to your local auto zone or advance auto and have them charge/test it for you. this costs nothing and they will be able to tell you if you have any dead cells in your battery or if it just needed a charge. if it turns out that it just needed a charge then you most likely have a bad alternator. once you get home with the freshly charged battery and start your vehicle head straight back to the auto parts store to let them check your alternator for you (also free) hope this helps

I am not a mechanic and have had no problems with my 2005 Ion-2 but at msn/autos I see that these can exhibit a starting problem because of the ignition switch which they recommend replacing. The part is around $40 & the labor is 1 hr.

Yes you can do this; the bearings are sealed unit hubs; very easy the cost is only about $70 each at an auto parts store. once you look at them you'll know how to do this.

the latch is simple first you got to get the door open though after that there are 4 to 6 screws that need to come out 4 usualy under the door pannel on the inside check the handle that you use to pull the door closed there sometimes is a screw in there afeer that there are plastic pop secrws that just pop out so after teh screws are out pull the bottom of the door pannel and it will pop out some times you will have a screw in the back of the actual inside hanle plastic or you will need to hole the door handle open to slide it off push up on the pannel so it comes free from the window lip unplug the electrial clip that is done by a push tab. take off the plastic its held on by a rubber cylacone there will be a metal rod the goes to the latch with a plastic clip that holds it in place push dow on the clip then pull the rod out un bolt the latch and take it out.

It may be complicated, depending which radio you have. UC1 or US9, US8. The owners manual should have all the info you need. You do have the radio code, right? If not...you will need to visit the dealer. If you have the code, the radio must be on for 1 hour and then it will unlock when it reads - - - - , and you can put the code in. Its not your girlfriends fault. ; )

When this happened to mine it ended up being a bad door switch. The alarm, dome/map lights and electric door locks are all connected to the door switches. It cost $65 for diagnosis, parts and labor at Saturn of South Burlington VT
