2007 toyota matrix hatchback door won't reset

The hatchback will not unlock. The J hook that creates the locking mechanism has shut itself into the locking position and will not unlock when I turn the key to the left. The is NOT a glass door. I also get a red "door ajar" light. I have tried using my valet key and my other black key, but nothing. My regular key is fairly worn, but this has never happened before. All I want to do is get the J hook opened so I can at least lock the hatchback. Any ideas?

Read manual. It should direct you to location where you can manualy unlock hatch. Look for little trap door. It should be located very near lock.
Hope this would help

This was helpful. I should have mentioned that it was stuck in the open position and just needed to be reset so I could lock mu hatch.

Sounds like something isn't right.Try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if that helps. Some times the ecu gets haywired and disconnecting the battery might reset it.And if it is the original battery you might want to get it tested.

Toyota matrix remote not unlocking car - battery is new

Check to see if your central locking still works on all doors and that you can also operate the driver's door central lock motor.
This can sometimes be an issue with the door lock motors themselves and not necessarily the key.

More than likely the connecting rod that goes from the door lock actuator to the locking mechanism itself came unattached. These rods are usually held in place by a small piece of plastic that the rods "pop" in and out. The only other thing i can imagine possible is that the door lock itself is actually seized up. In order to attempt to fix this, you would have to remove the door side panel to see the inner workings of the door, and this is quite difficult on most side sliding doors (i have a 2000 pontiac montana w/dual sliding doors). Hope this can help you solve your problem.

The passenger door on Mitsubishi Colt 2007 won't lock using central locking

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you replace the door lock actuator. It's the motor that locks and unlocks the door mechanism. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!

2003 Toyota Matrix rear hatch will not unlock

Hi there,
Try adding a little WD40 to the lock itself. Use your hands to lock and unlock it to get the oil to spread. Put a little oil on the key, then put it into the lock. Use your hand and key to move it through the lock and unlock stages. I hope that this is some help to you. Good luck and let me know. Have a great night.~MWD
