Is it 4 cylinder? or 6? If it's 4, the starter is on the front bottom of motor, behind the radiator. A 6 cylinder is on the backside of the motor. Disconnect battery first...... There are only 2 bolts on the starter to take it off. There is a rubber cover over the selanoid wires. Move that back and undo the nut. Pull wires off. In the center is the bigger cable [ battery cable] . You then disconnect the nut for this, and take that wire off. Unbolt the 2 bolts on the starter and watch for shims. Sometimes starters are shimmed to make them line up with the fly wheel. Pull starter out. . If there were shims in the old starter, it is wise to use them in the new one too, and if it doesn't have shims, your new starter may still need them. Bolt the starter back in place, and reconnect the wires the same way you took them off. When you start it, if you hear the starter grinding or wailing, just not sounding right, that means you either have to take the shim out or put the shim in. Chances are this won't happen, but nice to be warned if it does.Hope this helps you out keep me informed how you make out or if you have any questions. Please rate my solution thanks

Need to repair a 98 Lincoln Towncar Starter Selenoid on the car cn it be done

Im not gonna say its not possibile as I have done it,, but its not that hard to remove the starter, In the long term, you will prob find it still quicker and easier to remove the starter and replace the solenoid then reinstall starter than just to replace the solenoid..
Hope this helps
Sincerely
Roger

How do i know if i have to change my starter

if when trying to start the car it just clicks you can try tapping the starter while someone tries to start it.if it starts when tapping then the starter needs replacing.if it still just clicks then you could have a starter solenoid problem(still should replace starter)the only way to properly check it is to have a starter draw test done on the starter both with the motor cold and hot if you can get it started as amperage draw will increase with temperature.

How do i replace the starter motor on my 2002 renualt scenic

I have just replaced the starter on a 2001 Scenic 1.6 16v, after working it out the job could be easily done in 2 hours.
Jack the front of the car up, remove the engine bottom cover. From the top of the engine remove the airfilter then the 3 bolts that attach the starter motor. From underneath remove the oil pressure transducer (you need to remove this to allow room to pull the starter out), then unbolt the 10mm nut that attaches the electrical connection on the starter. The 10mm nut does not detach so gently prise the connection away from the starter. The starter should now be free to move, if not gently use a screwdriver to prise away. The starter will now come out with a bit of manipulation, there is no need to remove the driveshaft.

starter is located on the side of the engine between the radiator and engine. You can see it from the top looking down, bu your gong to have to remove it from the bottom of the car. Auto Zone will have the replacement starter and step by step instructions to getting the job done. Good luck

What tools do i need to take out a starter

LE, is that the f or 6 cyl?'
I just changed my starter (cyl) with a socket set. Only two nuts to remove if I remember... a very easy job.
The 4 cyl is even easier. Installation instructions come with the replacement starter.

About $100.

Starter replacment

If you are a larger person, you will need to get the front end into the air so you can move under it. Make certain to block the wheels! I had to take off a bar that ran under my starter before I could completely remove the starter. When I took the starter off, a plate fell to the ground. I didn't know what it went to, so I didn't put it back in. I wound up having to take the starter loose again to replace the plate, turned out it was a shim and was needed to help the starter last as long as possible. Also, the first rebuilt starter I bought was faulty. All in all I had to take the starter loose three times before I was done. Works fantastic now!

Starter replacement

Honestly, it is usually cheaper to purchase a rebuilt starter. It costs more because you usually have to buy a rebuild kit and sometimes need to have machine work done to the commutators on the armature of the starter. It can actually cost you more. What is nice with a rebuilt starter is they have a warranty and have mostly new parts in them. If you try and fix a starter another part can just wear out down the line and the process will repeat itself. This way you can replace it once and be done with it. If you turn the key and the starter does not even click you may be able to just replace the solenoid. The solenoid is the smaller cylinder located on the starter houseing.

Good luck.
