SOURCE: 94 Camaro Z28 Missfire & Backfires

I had a similar problem, took it to get diagnosed and was instructed to give them $1100 because of a faulty reading on the distributer, rather than paying $650 for a unit I found plenty available new for under $200 I bought an OEM for $189. Now the labour can be found cheaper elsewhere. I then discovered that the module may also be at fault but I would have to replace the dizzy first, Then discovered that the Air Flow meter {afm} may need to be taken off and cleaned with a carby cleaning spray, this is a do it yourself fix costing you about $8 a can of cleaner
Unscrew the units clamps and disconnect the plug, I can't stress enough, DO NOT touch the fine wires inside, spray the carbon buildup off the inside and blow/air dry, {do not rinse with water.} reinstall the unit in the reverse of which it was removed, Alternativly you may have fuel blockage in the lines, try replacing the fuel filter {cheapest fix}
Hope this helps

SOURCE: o2 sensor replacement on a 1997 camaro z28

Ahhh....I see. Well, there is a front and a rear sensor, and the car will almost have to be up on a rack. Even then there will be some jockeying. Personally, I would look at buying the sensors myself and going to a muffler shop to get them put in. You might be able to find the rear one after it's cool, but you'll need a special slotted socket to allow the sensor wires to fit in it so they don't break when installing.

You can find those for about $20.

Replace the low coolant sensor right side if radiator. When you replaced the radiator
they may have installed the old sensor.

I had the same problem.

I have a 1993 camaro z28 that will not rev over 3000 rpms In any gear. It acts like I hit a rev limiter. I have replaced the tps, plugs, wires, icm, coil and distributor. And it does that same thing.

Most likely you have. Some cars have a buffer module that goes bad. I'll take that back . All cars have them. Some older ones have the buffer outside the engine control module. It can be replaced. The other ones are built into the ECM, and the ECM has to be replaced.

Hi. I have a 99 camaro 3.8l and I'm having some

Sounds like a fuel problem,You did the coils,plug wires and sparkplugs, that should of taken care of the misfire,You may have a EGR that stay open and doesnt close properly and it doesnt set a code why the ECM compensate for the false air.Now this causes rough idle,and smooth cruise with no misfire until you get to stop or idle speed.The map sensor this can also fail when warm especially if the vacuum it is suppose to get is not met. And a failing MAP causes a lack of power. A TPS failing causes a stumble and lack of power but no misfire.cansmo_184.gif

How about water or dirt in the gas? It sounds like when the tank gets low this happens, so you need to check the tank out and make sure you are not getting watered down gas. This is very common and would cause the symptoms you are describing. I have a 98 Z28, so let me know if there is anything more I can help you with.

Fuel pressure? Do you hear the fuel pump running? Read the codes to see if ECM is still alive. Do you have spark at the plugs? Remember all motors need 3 things to run air, fuel, and fire at the right time.

Have you tried to pull any DTC codes. Here is a link for you so you can pull some codes, but you may have a bad Ignition Control Module (ICM) it's around $40.00 at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instruction to replacing it with common tools. The ICM is common to go bad after a few years due to time and corrosion. It's location is under the rotor in the distributor, as it heats up if fails or any changes in the engine speed. Check the wires to make sure there are no damages. Keep me posted be glad the help. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
