Re: s10 shifts weird
Just was your Earlier Post. How many miles are on this Tranny???? It may just need an Overhaul. First try a Flush and Fill to see if it will Start Shifting Correctly. It is Cheaper and works Sometimes.

On reviewing the manual, there are two cautions regarding installing the shift shaft that may be the source of your problem. One, the shaft must be installed with the detents at the front end of the shaft facing upwards. These detents are what the ball/spring seat into when the shaft moves forward/aft (like into 1st/2nd gear). The shaft can be installed 180 degrees out, but you would not feel the shifter 'lock' into gear.
The second caution seems more probable. When inserting the roll pin holding the shift shaft lever and bushing onto the shift shaft, the roll pin must be driven down flush with the surface of the shift shaft lever. If not driven flush, it can bind on or interfere with the movement of the bushing, possibly preventing the lever from being able to engage all of the three shift forks (3/4, 1/2, 5/rev). There are two roll pins used with the shift shaft. The shorter one (7/8") is used to secure the shift shaft lever/bushing and the longer one (1 1/4") to secure the shift socket in the rear.
Unfortunately, confirmation will require removal and partial disassembly (removal of the front case) to confirm.

The shift linkage bushings and the Shift lever bushings are probably worn. Adjustment of linkage and shift lever is probably needed. If this is beyond your DIY capacity, I'd take to a competent Transmission shop. Or purchase a repair manual from your auto parts store. You will want it again soon anyway if you are a DIYer. filepeep.com may have the manual, or try manualslib.com
Besides the normal stuff, like the radio stations preset and the clock, the only thing that has to be reprogramed on these vans is the shifting, somtimes it looses its shift points, you will need to reconnect the battery and then drive the van and you will see if it doesnt shift gears like it used to, it may take longer to shift, to correct this problem dissconnect battery for 10min, then connect it back and start the van and place the shifter all the way down to low, slowly roll out to road and take off you will shift the gears your self, note that the way you shift is the way its programed, so you will take off and at about 15mph you will shift to 2 and then i think at 30mph 3 and so on till you get to drive, good day.
Transmission does not shift automatically, only manually. Swap
in a known-good PCM, check wiring, check other sensors such as VSS and
3rd gear starts, can manually shift through all gears. When car has
been turned off for a bit, then back on it will run normally.: VSS drop off w/ Hi-stall converter. The rpms are too high, but VSS is showing
no movement. Happens after a tire burning take-off. Doesn't store a
code, will not throw a CEL (I've heard that it will store a code if it
happens 3 or more times). Cure: Reprogram PCM for VSS drop off --
PCMforLess knows about it.
Note that many problems that show up as transmission issues are actually
PCM or electrical, and may be external to the transmission. Try a
different PCM, and check for chafing where the cables come out of the
PCM or the transmission on the passenger side.
Actually, I recommend putting an after-market ratchet shifter on the transmission. This sounds weird, but we purposely cut the TPS out of my TH350 for street / strip racing. A ratchet B&M shifter or something similar will work, but it makes destination driving (I.E groceries, family, etc) a bit more of a pain.
take your s-10 to a reputable trans' shop NOW!!
you have an internal problem,BUT if you'r lucky,it may just be the "range switch"on the side of the trans(hair dryer needed to heat the "goo"-sealer on the harness plug)
the trans' is in "limp(default)mode, just to keep you moving!!
driving it this way for a month WILL destroy the transmission!!
