After a while, the vacuum hoses in the Audi get VERY brittle, specially the ones in the back of the engine and one in the front that goes across the engine.
I had this same problem, and discovered while cleaning the EMF sensor, that the hoses practically disintegrate just by me touching them.

Feel those hoses and see how they are. If they are very soft and mushy, they will need to be replaced.

My Jetta runs real good however the EPC lamp stays on and check engine lamp is on. I scaned and got Two codes.


The 102 code is a Mass Airflow sensor circuit code. It saus the voltage output was below expected.
the 322 is a crak sensor/RPM sensor code saying it didnt see it on at least 1 occaision when expected.

The crank sensor code can be accidentally triggered by long cranks, low battery, or stalls and there may be nothing wrong with the crank sensor.

The MAF sensor code can be caused by a defective MAF, a large air leak downstream of the MAF or in the PCV system causing the MAF to miss sensing too much of the air thats going in and therefore reading low voltage compared to RPM and Throttle position.

Any time the MAF is reading wrong, due to an airleak, timing issue, or defective MAF, an EPC lamp will follow. This just means that the accelerator pedal was in a certain position (wherever you pressed it) and the computer expects a certain MAF reading and a certain throttle reading and a certain RPM and LOAD reading all to match together. If any of them is too far off, you get an EPC light warning you the pedal didnt match something else that was expected.

If the crank code doesnt return after clearing, ignore it for now. The MAF code should be checked 1st with leak tests or smoke tests by a competent mechanic. If you SEE any loose, broken, or cracked hoses with a visual test; you can reattatch or repair those and hope for the best and it may be OK. If you dont see an obvious hose leak, you will likely need to replace something that is causing readings of 2 sensors to mismatch. COuld be the PCV/Oil seperator, throttle body, pedal sensor, or MAF. Guessing could get very expensive very quickly, so my recommendation is have a professional check it properly.

2003 ford taurus idles and stalls...


you can take some carb cleaner and spray around the intake while its running. If the engine picks up speed then the intake is definately leaking.

I have replaced all fuel injectors, the MAP sensor, the MAF sensor, the fuel pressure regulator, and my Buick wants to putter and stall when it comes to an idle. What could be causing this!? I need...


i would replace the throttle body gasket & clean the throttle position sensor . also check that you have no vaccum leaks or bad hose. check pvc vavle that it not stopped up .

Idles low to almost stalling while at a stop


get a tune up. replace spark plugs and wires, pcv, fuel filter,air filter. most of time this parts will solve the problem otherwise you have maf sensor, vaccume lines leaking or loose crack pipes that scapes air or bad sensor not just oxy. and dtc codes will come out. find out what is the codes.

99 malibu always read inconsistant fuel levels but now engine light came on and stalled on the highway.Codes read lean fuel and misfire. Exhaust smells horrible she sputters when left idle and idles low...


check to make sure catylitic convertor is not plugged. if it is ok, then put a code scanner on to read codes, may have a bad 02 sensor. if you dont have a scanner, most auto parts places will scan vehicles for free.

What doe the code mean p0171 for 2004 mercedes c230 and my check engin light is on? Can some one HELP me please


either a vaccum leak, or a dirty mass air flow (maf) sensor. the sensor you can clean with crc maf cleaner spray at your local auto parts store. as for the vacuum leak, i heard there is a recall for m271 engines to replace two faulty vaccum lines. one line goes to the s/c, and i believe the other one is right next to it. check if your car needs this recall and go from there.

P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1) indicates a bad reading from an O2 sensor or bad MAF sensor.
CausesA code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible SolutionsPossible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

well the egr could be stuck open acting like a vacum leak,,,and causing the car to stall,,,you need a new egr,,,,check the wires and if any vacum hoses that go to it,to make sure they are good and connected first,if so replace the egr,,,,it could be false dtc for MAF sensor,,,

Car is stalling


PO171 means that the MAF (MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR )sensor is dirty or deffective . Or that there is a leak in the vacume hose leading to the MAF sensor.Try cleaning the MAF sensor with brake cleaner .Be careful not to damage it.Check your Air filter also. Make sure it is clean. the reason the MAF sensor gets dirty is because of the filter. Also look for any leaks in the hose or hoses connected to it.It is located near the top of the air filter...little black box with wires coming out toward the front of the car.
