Thank a lot for the help. Due to a time issue I have not yet dug deeper under the hood, but I have a better idea on what to look for once I get there. I am having some real strange results. The low Coolant light did not come on one time yesterday, but I drove four miles this evening and the light flickered several times. I suspect it may be just a dirty or defective coolant censor. I need to put the thermostat back in and see what it does thereafter. Again, thanks for the help.

On the passenger side of the radiator there should be a coolant level sensor several inches from the top facing the engine. they are known for plugging up with sludge or just going bad. They connect with a metal retaining clip around the outside edge and are easy to change

I have Found this same Light in Many Olds, Even My 1986 98 Brougham Regency, Now With Mine I Made Sure the Cooling System had NO LEAKS and that it was Fill I Changed the Coolant Level Sensor and The Light Was Still ON So I Had a friend sit and watch the light and I Played with the wire to the sensor it finally went off I Never found an OPEN SPLIT ,Bad Connection with it. with Others I have had 50 percent on them Corrected with a Sensor the rest Just Either Intermittently flicked on & off or Stayed on as the Owners Did Not want to PAY PER Hour, for me to Serch for the Problem, without an Estemate of time, as I was Unable to give Due to the Deavience LoL Of the Problem. I would Replace the Level sensor and if that Does the Trick Thank God if Not Your Call as to take it to a Electrical Shop as they are EXPENSIVE. If Your Visual Check of the Coolant Level Says OK, keep in Mind that is NO Different than 30yrs Ago when there was NO Coolant Level Sensor.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I Truely Hope This Helps you And If So--------PLEASE Help ME BY not forgeting to RATE Me Thank You !!

You also have to make sure the system is "burped" after you fill it. There is a 7mm screw fiitting on the water neck by the upper radiator hose . Fill with coolant, start engine and let warm up,put heat on high, then crack open the fitting until coolant starts to run out in a steady stream. Tighten back up and top off coolant level if needed.

MITSUBISHI SHOGUN Mk II (V2_W, V4_W) 3.0 V6 24V (V43W, V23W) (177HP) i keep getting a orange warning light looks like a tank with wave water lines on it can anyone help me to resolve this to get the l

by the sounds of it sounds like one of 2 lights that light up, the one is indicating that the coolant level is low so this would need checking, if its not low then it may be the next problem im going to tell you about, is the wavey water picture above a tank or below, if the wavey part is above the tank on the warning light then its coolant level, if the coolant level is ok then chances are either the sensor is faulty of the connections are faulty, the level sensor is located in the lid of the coolant filler cap so unplug the connector and plug back in and see if that makes any difference, if not then the sensor needs replacing,

now if the wavey water symbol is below an object on the warning light then this is telling us that the fuel filter has sensed their is water setting in the filter, now this only happens with diesels and usually its a faulty sensor and not that their is water in the fuel, if it is the fuel warning light then most of the time it cant be fixed unless the sensor is changed but even then its no guarantee it will put the light out,

Hi,

That low coolant malfunction light on GM products is very common. You can either replace the coolant level sensor or remove it and clean it up. I suggest that you replace it since it feeds important data to the Powertrain Control Module (computer) and a malfunction can effect engine response and fuel economy.

The cost per unit on eBay ranges from $22-$69. A;so try Amazon for the best retail prices.

This is an item that you can install in less than thirty minutes.

All the best,

Ben

I have a 2000 silhouette. the coolant level low light keeps coming on even though coolant has been added. after about 10 minutes of idling the temp rises to just below h.but temp is fine while driving....

Bleed the air out of the coolant system, and add more coolant,to radiator, and reservoir, and make sure the cooling fans are coming on,if the low coolant light stays on,remove the low coolant light sensor, and clean it off,it is located on passengers side in the radiator,it has a wire clip you have to remove, and dont loose it,after cleaning it,put the clip back on the sensor, and push the sensor back in the hole.

Add Coolant to spherical reservoir at right rear of engine compartment as viewed from front. If it is low the coolant gauge flashing light will warn you of a low condition.

Low coolant light came on 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette, went out a couple minutes later without adding any coolant. Adding a little anyway after light went out. Now about 1 1/2 weeks later light came on...

If its not low on coolant and the light continues to come on it is the low coolant sensor in the radiator. This sensor is in the plastic side of the radiator and just pops off. These sensors are always a problem and don't always require replacement of the sensor. What happens -especially if you are using red DEX-COOL coolant is that the coolant gets hard and crusty inside the sensor and wont allow the coolant to enter and make contact with the sensor. Simply take the sensor off and blow compressed air or water pressure in it to free it of debris. Easy fix-hope this helps!

Where is the low coolant sensor in a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette

It is usually a wire like gadget which projects down into the coolant overflow tank. If the coolant gets too low, an electrical circuit is closed (or opened) and a warning light is activated.
