Question about Cars & Trucks
I have a 2002 ford explorer sport trac. My truck ran fine yesterday but this morning I went to start it & it started ran for about 5 seconds then died I did this 4 or 5 times then my son noticed some smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Please help me figure out what is wrong.
Check your fuel pressure, there are Relays to check. Sometimes the pump is so weak that it delivers enough to start the engine and can not keep up. It is also built to shut down the fuel if the engine dies.
When you turn the key, you should hear the fuel pump run. As for the smoke, with the automatic shut-offs occurring, there is moisture and incomplete combustion gases leaving the tailpipe.

SOURCE: starts but won't stay running
also check the cank sensor. alot of times iac will only kill the car if given gas. crank sensor when it first starts going out will not set an engine code

sounds like a blown head gasket letting coolant get injected into the engine and getting burned with the fuel. a head gasket replacement should help
