Question about 1994 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Put used motor in 2002 honda accord. Motor runs fine but when you give it gas it wants to die out. Was able to get the car up to 10 mph but runs bad.

Changed the O2 sensor. Checked the fuel filter & the filter looked great so did the gas very clear. tested the fuel pump & getting the right amount of pressure & no trash in the line.

What was wrong with the old motor? did you replace the spark plugs? are there any codes

Posted on Jan 09, 2013

  • Tammy Landry Jan 09, 2013

My son threw a rod thru the motor. We put in a used motor. Almost everything has been replaced & new. We also changed the catalytic converter, cleaned out the lines, changed the spark plugs, cleaned the fuel injectors. Have done just about everything we could think of. It doesn't throw any codes while idling but will throw a code while driving but the codes it throws is not whats causing it to bog down. That's why we were thinking that the computer and the newer motor are not accepting each other & that we should have the computer reprogrammed. If there is any other alternative solution that you think we have not tried yet please let me know. Thanks for the help

SOURCE: 1993 honda accord/ dont know

Sounds like the ignitor in the distributor has gone bad. The cheaper way out is just buying a good used distributor from the bone yard. I've had this same problem several times on these Hondas.

SOURCE: idle is too low, car dies, engine runs fine

An IAC (idle air control) motor is designed to adjust the engine idle RPM speed by opening and closing an air bypass passage inside the throttle body. The car computer or ECM (electronic control module) receives information from various sensors and will output signals to adjust the IAC motor in or out to adjust engine idle speed by controlling engine idle air.
An IAC motor is highly susceptible to carbon and coking build up; if an IAC goes too long without cleaning it can cause stalling and poor idle quality. Some cars are designed with a large vacuum transfer hose that connects the intake manifold to the IAC (idle air control) motor. If a broken or dilapidated these vacuum lines can cause the engine to lose vacuum which will allow the engine to run rough and die.
Inspect all engine and accessory vacuum lines to look for missing, torn or dilapidated lines and replace as needed. To check the IAC motor remove the unit, with the wires connected turn the key to the "on" position without starting the engine, the IAC should move in or out.
If the IAC motor does nothing it has probably failed, replace it with a new unit and recheck system. Note: while the IAC motor is removed clean (use aerosol carburetor cleaner) the passages the IAC uses to control idle air speed.

Good luck and hope this helps

SOURCE: 95 honda accord dx with 2.2 non vtec won't stay

Hello
You say you checked the ignition switch, you are 100% sure that isn't the problem? this year and indeed most 1990's Honda"s has a problem with the electrical contacts in the ignition starter switch, the symptom is the car will run until the key is released to the run position or the engine just stalls for no reason, the switch is very easy to replace and I bet is your problem, just remove the sterring column covers, they are a **** shell cover the screws are recessed on the bottom of the cover, Honda doesn't sell the switch seperately from the key cylinder buy it is sold in the after market, here is a price and picture of the part.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # US288 {IGNITION STARTER SWITCH} $31.79 US

SOURCE: On 93 honda accord the brakes lock down as soon

  • CHECK THE RUBBER LINES IN THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE CAR ON EACH WHEEL. THEY GO TO THE CALIPERS ON THE FRONT/REAR BRAKES..IF THEY ARE TOO BAD THEY CAUSE LOCK UP ON THE BRAKES AS THAY COLLAPSE AND WONT LET THE PRESSURE DRAIN TO RELEASE BRAKES (LINE LOCK) ;) BAD CRACKS.SPLITS OR WEAR CAN CAUSE THIS.
  • OTHERWISE YOU MAY HAVE A STUCK CALIPER WHICH SHOULD BE REPLACED, OR PARKING BRAKE IS STUCK.

Low power and acceleration on 1990 honda accord

Sounds like a bad motor bearing. Not good news. With all spark plugs out and belts to alternator, power steering, air conditioner, etc., loose, rotate the motor by hand to see if it's free.

Car runs fine then after a while you shut it off, then about 10 to 15 min later it will start, then die. you put it in gear and it dies, it does have a full tank of gas.

could be the alternator, if the voltage is not maintained it will die like that you check that out before it kills your starter and battery

1992 honda accord ex starts to accelerate on its own at about 40- 50 mph what could be the problem?

Check your engine mounts to make sure they haven't failed. The torque of the engine can, during acceleration, can cause the motor to twist slightly if the motor mount(s) are bad, causing the gas pedal linkage to move, increasing acceleration.

Pull the motor out and push the window up manually and put a wedge in there to hold it up, or try to re-connect the old motor to hold it up.
