Why can't I unlock my ignition and start my car?

Put one hand on the steering wheel and rotate slightly left and right alternatively whilst turning the ignition key at the same time with the other hand. This might release the steering wheel and start ignition.

Hope this helps.

Dead battery will not shift into neutral

Have you tried manually pressing the neutral safety switch? Not a 100% where it is if your shifter is on the column but the floor shifters usually top right or mid ways along the gear selector, something like a small square that pops out ive seen people release it with a small screw driver.

Trail blazer gear shift button

Could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to turn the key lock to the unlock position, move the shifter out of park, then start the engine in neutral.
The shifter and the shift lock solenoid would need to be inspected.

Ignition key won't turn. gear can't be shifted to neutral.

Check to insure that you have the correct key. If you do, spray a little WD-40 on the key, insert it and try it again. If it won't turn, turn the steering wheel as far back and forth as you can and try the key again, repeat until the key turns. The problem is that the ignition lock is slightly out of alignment, a common problem. Usually a little patience and a little more force and it will turn.

Solution for ''2004 infiniti g35 stuck in manual mode key stuck too ,how to get it out of there'' slipped into from automatic when parking the car.

Your car is equipt with a "Shift Lock" feature. You cannot remove the key until the car is in park. There is a slot located on the console near the "park" position that is labeled "Shift Lock". Pop the top and insert your spare key. You should then be able to take the car from manual to park. Once in park, you can turn the key in the steering column to off and remove that key.

1976 corvette shifter locked up, goes in revese & neutral only

You're going to have to crawl underneath it, and see what's going on. Your linkage has probably come loose, and the shifter is sliding on the rod, instead of changing gears like it should.

Car will start but gear shift is locked

follow instructions in manual for SHIFTLOCK RELEASE

Turn off car.
Engage Parking Break
Take ignition key and put into shift lock release slot (near gear shift)
Push down on key and at same time MOVE gear shift to neutral.
Remove key, start car as normal and disengage parking break...

good to go.... mechanic can replace/repair if this is an ongoing issue: $85 I read somewhere...but heard it's not hard to do yourself for $35 someone else wrote.
