Question about 2004 Ford Escape

1 Answer

I have a Ford Escape 2001 XLT v6 3.0

THE PROBLEM WITH MY ESCAPE IS THAT WHEN I TURN ON THE A/C THE FANS ACTIVATED AND THE VOLTAGE DECREASE TO 12.30 V, BUT WHEN I TURN OFF THE A/C OR THE FANS THE VOLTAGE INCREASE TO THE NORMAL VOLTAGE, I'VE CHANGE THE BATTERY AND THE ALTERNATOR 5 TIMES , I TOOK THE ESCAPE TO THE DEALER FORD AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS THE BATTERY OR THE ALTERNATOR, LIKE I SAID I'VE CHANGED 5 TIME AND I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM.

LAST YEAR WHEN I TOOK THE ESCAPE TO THE FORD THEY CHANGED THE 2 FANS, AND IN 9 MONTH THE ESCAPE WAS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, IT IS POSIBLE THAT THE FANS WERE DAMAGE IN ONLY 9 MONTH? IN THE FORD THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE FANS ARE GOOD.

Well my opinion is that the electric cooling fans are drawing too much current. or the fan resistor/relay could be causing it

well its also possible the the solid state relay could also be drawing excess current. and or wiping out the electric fans

the solid state relay/resistor for the fan control doesnt have a resistance value. what i would do is hook an amp meter in series with the cooling fan circuit and turn on the a/c. the fans will come on and you can see how many amps the fans are drawing. it really shouldn't be much higher than 10 amps. also i would disconnect the battery and spin the electric fans by hand and feel for binding or sticking. there is also the possibility that its not related to the fan at all. you may have an a/c compressor that is hard to spin and when the a/c is on it puts such a load on the engine that the voltage output of the alternator is affected
