Having trouble wiring in a stereo for a 1991 pontiac sunbird le. There seem to be 2 wiring harness that seem stock. The first is for the radio, second for the tape deck, and there is also a third that does not belong there. i have attempted to connected an aftermarket deck to both of the harnesses but no cigar. I now have it wired to the fuse box's additional bat. feed terminal & ignition terminal. the deck lights up but pulsates since i hooked up the rear speakers on their own new lines that i ran. Also one thing i dont get is that with the stock stereo disconnected why are the stock speakers still making sound?

I would suggest you spice the wires back to stock harness by male and female connections and tape over them with black tape then get a stereo install kit that includes a wiring harness ( cost about $20 maybe or less) for the year of truck you have... it will plug right to your stock harness ...never just cut stock stereo wires from stock plug it will be more of a headache than you think trust me I've installed all my own stereo system been there done that... good luck
Get a wiring harness adapter kit (about $10) from a stereo shop. It has harness plugs that will plug directly into your harnesses in the dash, and has color-coded wires that you will color-match to the wires on the aftermarket deck's harness. You may need an antenna adapter as well. If your stock stereo face is taller than the aftermarket one, you'll need a dashboard adapter kit to take up the extra space.
you will need to unscrew your dash and pull off the front plate of your dash, then you will need to unscrew the stock radio, then you will need to go ahead and pull out the adapter from the back of your radio. Next you will need to attach your adapter harness to your car harness and splice the color coded wires to the harness on your new cd player. After that, you will need to plug your antenna back into your new cd player, Note that some cd players will require an adapter, these can be found at circuit city or at your local car dealerships.-Shocker
Yes this is not to bad to deal with.. make sure you use quality wire connectors so you don't have problems later with bad connections. you pretty much just have to match the colors from the harness in the car to the ones on your deck. If you don't want to cut off the harness connector on your deck just purchase one that you can connect to your deck and cut the wire ends on the other side of the adapter. The only wires you wont be able to match color for color is speaker wires... for these you will just have to hook them up temp. and test to see that they are connected to the proper speaker output.

if he had an aftermarket stereo in the vehical then he had to cut the origional harness out of the way. the only solution for this would be to replace with another aftermarket stereo. I know this becaus ei had a ***** of a time trying to install my aftermarket.
