From the diagram I found you need to look under the hood on the drivers side near the front of the wheel well. I will attach the link of the diagram for you also. You want to look at the 23rd diagram from the top and click enlarge it gives a good view so you should be able to find it easily (look for item number six on the diagram). If you are not sure what a TCM looks like there are lots of pictures on the net just use google images. Repair Guides Component Locations Component Locations 1 AutoZone com

P1781 DTC

DTC P1781 - Engine Torque Signal Circuit

This code is set during engine start up when the ECM & TCM do not communicate properly during initial power up. It will only illuminate the service light if the condition occurs in 2 consecutive start cycles, but the DTC will be stored in the failure records after the first cycle.

Hope helps.

Hold light blinking, check engine light on, engine slows down

check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.

Engine will die

There is a Communication problem between the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Engine control module. That is the bad news and is why it's shutting down the engine.
The good news is i believe there is a TSB recall on the 2004 - 2007 chevy aveo for the P0700 problem so it should be covered under warranty.
Believe the TSB# 05-06-01-030D
Good luck and hope this helps and hope it's not a bad ECM. Check the wire harness to the ECM and TCM, look for broken wire or the harness it self gone apart.
