Water pump leaking on 1997 Monte Carlo?

Where is the water pump on a 1997 Monte Carlo w/V6? I took it to a shop and asked them to check it, they said they did and it had no problems. I believe they lied because it is still leaking from that area but I need to be certain if it's around the pump. Is it on the Front of engine on bottom (passenger side of engine compartment)?

The water pump is located on the passenger side of the car just behind the surpentine belt. check to see how much coolant you go through in just a few days time. if the car is not over heating but going through massive amounts of coolant, chances are good that your water pump may need replaced.

Its not likely that a shop would lie and tell you that your car is ok but i would take it to another repair shop. it maybe `the timing cover gasket is leaking.. a pressure test is required to check it properly.

It's on the front of the engine. if you paid them , take it back and tell them their repair didn't work.

Replacing water pump on 86 chevy monte carlo

Thats interesting - - the engine should start even if the water pump has been removed.
An 86 model would have a V6 or a V8 engine and both use a distributor, have you checked for spark at the plugs and fuel in the carb or injector ??

My car is still overheating

Add cooling fluid to the radiator, this will raise the boiling point of the water preventing boil out. Meaning your engine will receive enough water to cool down.

Also check the radiator for leaks. The next step is to check the water pump. Also ensure that your engine has enough engine oil, as this also reduces heat.

Take care!

How to replace a thermostat on a1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.1 v6

you may be able to take off the water housing by taking the front bolt out and loosening the rear, but its TOUGH to get too. A repair shop can do it for you. I replace them if I have the intake manifold off for any reason. check if intake gaskets are leaking,(common), then you need them replaced and the thermostat is easy to replace at that time.

My1998 Monte carlo is leaking anti freeze and the temp gauge is all over the place and the car is driving like its tired.

It sounds like a radiator cap. However, double check the leak is not coming from the front of the engine block which would mean a bad water pump.

I am trying to find a radiator for my monte carlo 1997 3.1 v6.... what would be that part number or what should i look out fot not to end up with a wrong part?

The part number will be different depending on the brand of radiator you buy. The parts store will look up the correct part number when you go to purchase the new one. Just be sure to tell them your engine size andoptions such as air conditioning, towing package, etc.

Most likely a bad seal on the water pump. They will shrink up when it gets real cold out and leak. Look for a white line on the bottom side of the hood as it usually is the only indicator when that happens. The water pump is prety easy to replace too. good luck

1998 chevy monte carlo leaking coolant

It's a 99% chance of water pump leak or the housing at the timing chain that the water pump sits on.
Water pumps can and do leak one minute then seal themselves.
A cheap fix most use is go to a 7 lb pressure cap on the rad.
