Can the orifice tube on a 2002 mustang be repaired with kit

Replacing the whole a/c system(compressor/accumulator etc.) in 2002 mustang 3.8 V6 Parts house sold me an orifice tube repair kit to splice in the line. I have no directions as to where to cut and make the splice.

1 Answer

You do not cut & splice into any A/C System

You replace with the oe type parts only when
they fail/leak

The orifice is a screen inside the hose connection
& can be cleaned, not necessary to always replace

Does it have crimp marks on the tube about 3 inches from the fitting? If so,that's where the orifice tube is.Most of the time, you simply disconnect the fitting, pull out the orifice tube & install a new one.Tip:if it has a lot of black junk on it,flush the system or you will end up having the same problem again very soon.Good luck,

How do you install orifice tube on a 1996 ford mustang

First thing is to use a recovery station to remove the Freon. Then you open the system connections at the receiver dryer and look into the outbound connection for the orifice tub. You might need to use a pick or needle nose pliers to remove it. When it is out, you need to remove the compressor from the circuit and flush the whole system with a recommended solvent. Drain the oil from the compressor by sitting it so that the connections allow it to drain. Catch the fluid from the flushing and the compressor to check for debris. If you see any you can re-flush the system again. If you see rust you have to replace everything. When you are done, put the orifice tube back, put in a NEW receiver dryer. Connect the compressor back to one side, put new oil back in the system according to the specs. connect the other side, pump the system down and wait for 4 hours with the vacuum pump running. Then charge the system. Now you know why it is so expensive.

Replace AC Compressor, Accumulator, Orifice Tube, and Hose Assembly

Made a video on how to change the AC Compressor, Accumulator, Orifice Tube, and Hose Assembly on my 2003 Ford Focus 2.0L SOHC SPI. Symptoms started off as blowing hot air at idle and then it just blew hot air all the time and Firestone told me it had not compression and needed the compressor replaced. I got all my parts at AutoZone for a around $230. Save 20 On Online Ship To Home Orders Of 100 Or More

AC compressor locking up when AC is on. 1999 honda accord

When you say it is locking up, do you mean that the pulley stops spinning completely while the motor is still running? (this might cause the serpentine belt to burn, come off, or the car to stall or shudder badly)

If so, chances are that either the compressor has already failed completely, OR inside your A/C system is a part called an Orifice tube. This is basically a small filter in the A/C tubing that is supposed to catch small particles and keep them from going into the cooler/evaporator in the cabin of the car. If this little part get's totally clogged, it will cause a back up of pressure and lock the compressor up. This is something that has to be serviced by a shop with specialized tools. DIY on a/c is a bad idea as these systems are SUPER sensitive (even the humidity in the air can ruin parts if you do the job slowly and without the right tools).

If this is your problem, it will likely mean several new parts minimum for your a/c system. If you can afford it, the best bet is to take it to a professional a/c shop. If the compressor has already started to fail and there is metal in the lines, then you may need to replace the whole a/c system as it is very difficult to flush all the metal particles from all the lines and the other parts and any left over metal shavings from a broken compressor will just break the next one as well.

If there is no metal in the lines and the compressor is still in good shape and just the orifice tube is clogged, then you may have caught this in time. You then might have to replace the accumulator/dryer, the orifice tube, and the Freon. The accumulator has a chemical drier in it that if it breaks down is what may travel downline and clog the orifice tube/filter. These 3 parts MAY be a fix for you. Best of luck!

How do you replace an air compressor in a 99 olds alero

TAKE CAR TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.THEY HAVE TO DISCHARGE AND RECOVER THE REFRIGERANT FROM CAR STORING IT IN STORAGE RECOVER UNIT.AGAINST THE LAW TO LET OUT REFRIGERANT IN THE ATOMOSHERE CAUSING OZONE DAMAGE.WHEN REFRIGERANT IS REMOVED THIS WILL BE THE CHEAPEST WAY.FIRST GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY A PACK OF O - RINGS FOR AIRCONDITIONERS SYSTEM.THEY SHOULD BE GREEN COLOR NOT BLACK ONES.THEY ARE THE UNIVERSAL O -RINGS NOT MADE FOR AIR CONDITION SYSTEM.THE REFRIGERANT WILL DESTROY AND CAUSE LEAKS.WHEN YOU BUY O - RINGS.BUY NEW ACCUMULATOR THE OLD ONE FULL OF MOISTURE.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE EXPANSION TUBE OR ORIFICE TUBE.IT IS LOCATED AT CONDENSOR LOWER LINE FITTING.BUY 1 BOTTLE OF R- 134 REFRIGERANT OIL. THEN BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR POUR THE OIL OUT OF IT.MEASURE HOW MUCH OIL IN COMPRESSOR.OKAY TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR FIRST REMOVE DRIVE BELT.THEN SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND REMOVE WHEEL AND SPLASH SHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE.DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM COMPRESSOR AND REMOVE COMPRESSOR REFRIGERANT LINES.THEN REMOVE COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BOLTS 2 BOLTS AT TOP 1 OR 2 BOLTS ON BOTTOM OF COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR.SEE HOW MUCH OIL COMES OUT.SHOULD BE A OUNCE OR TWO.GM COMPRESSOR HOLDS 10 TO 8 OUNCES.BUT WE DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IN SYSTEM.WHEN YOU BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.MEASURE HOW MUCH SHIPPING OIL IT HAS BY POURING IT OUT.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE I WOULD POUR 2 OUNCE REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR. POUR 1 OUNCE OIL IN ACCUMULATOR.REPLACE ALL THE O -RINGS AT THE COMPRESSOR AND ACCUMULATOR AND THE LOWER CONDENSORS LINES WHEN REPLACING THE ORIFICE TUBE.USE NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO REMOVE THE ORIFICE TUBE.BESURE TO PLACE THE LONG SCREEN ON THE INSIDE.BESURE TO LUBRICATE ALL O - RINGS WITH REFRIGERANT OIL.WHEN YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.DONT OVER TIGHTEN THE REFRIGERANT LINES WHICH WILL CUT THE O - RINGS CAUSE LEAKING. TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE THAT DOES AC WORK.LET THEM PUMP DOWN THE SYSTEM AND LEAK TEST THEN CHARGE AC SYSTEM UP.THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY BECAUSE IF YOU BUY A VACUUM PUMP THATS ABOUT $400.00 AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET A GOOD SET RANGE FROM $100.00 TO $300.00 DOLLARS.SEE YOUR AC COMPRESSOR $270.00 TO OVER $300.00 THAT ADDS UP.HOPE MOST THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THE HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL CAN ALSO HELP YOU IT HAS PHOTOS AND INFORMATION HOW TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR.

2003 ford focus compressor froze up. what is cost to havee replaced ?

It cost me around $220 for parts from AutoZone (AC Compressor, Accumulator, Orifice Tube, and Refrigerant Oil). I had to have it professionally evacuated and charged by Firestone and that cost me $80. I didn't flush the system because my compressor didn't blow up and throw chunks out. I made a video on how I did it. So far it's working great!

Where exactly is the orifice tube located at on a 1996 (DOHC v6)?

it's in the high pressure liquid line.

A/C Evaporator Core Orifice The A/C evaporator core orifice (19D990) should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor (19703) is replaced for lack of performance (internal damage). The A/C evaporator core orifice, located in the condenser to evaporator tube (19835), cannot be serviced in detail as a component of the line. If replacement is necessary, follow the procedure outlined for Liquid Line Removal and Installation. An orifice tube replacement service kit may be used as an optional service procedure. Refer to Section 12-00 for information regarding the use of an A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Replacement Kit E5VY-19D695-A.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Replacement Kit Installation
  1. Discharge A/C refrigerant system. Refer to System Discharging and Recovery as outlined.
  1. Remove condenser to evaporator tube (19835) from vehicle.
  1. Locate A/C evaporator core orifice (19D990) by three indentations or a circular recess in metal portion of the condenser to evaporator tube.

    A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Location
32c58e1.gif
  1. Note angular position of ends of condenser to evaporator tube so that it can be reassembled in correct position.
  1. Cut a 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) section from condenser to evaporator tube at A/C evaporator core orifice location. Do not cut closer than 25.4 mm (1 inch) from start of a bend in tube.

A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Section Removed From the Liquid Line
    ea95a2d.gif
  1. Remove contaminants from the two pieces of the condenser to evaporator tube.
  1. NOTE: The inlet half of the condenser to evaporator tube will be positioned against the A/C evaporator core orifice tabs when correctly assembled.

Lubricate fitting with clean refrigerant oil and assemble orifice tube kit (with A/C evaporator core orifice installed) to condenser to evaporator tube. Make sure flow direction arrow is pointing toward evaporator end of the condenser to evaporator tube, and taper of each compressor ring is toward compression nut.
