Question about 2004 Mazda 6
Your gear selector linkage cable has come adrift from the linkage bracket just below the battery tray ,you can temporarily fix with two cable ties ,but will need to replace one of the two cables one is for neutral and the other is to select gear

The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6. The cylinders are, front bank is from drivers side to passenger, 6-5-4 , and 3-2-1 at the firewall. This is for a 2004 Mazda MPV.

what year is vehicle please ?? as people often put it in wrong catagory ,if its mazada 2007 then its dealer only as a computer controls it all and the software is factory encrypted to stop general garages from repairing it .But check for a vacumn pipe loose under bonnet ,thin rubber pìpe from inlet manifold to gearbor or a diaphram switch,

Check transmission fluid. If that is full, try changing the fuel filter. It could be starving for gas, and trying to shift but can't. It could also be the speed sensor, or shift solenoid.
