I have a 95 Jimmy 4.3 4x4. It started bucking when I let off the gas. My mechanic said it was losing approx. 8% pressure and replaced the fuel pump. It didn't solve the problem. Now he wants to replace the timing chain which he said is a 7 -8 hour job and big bucks. Does this sound right? He did a diagnostic test which didn't show anything. Would bad injectors show on diagnostics? What would be the proper process to eliminate possibilities before I keep spending money

The 1995 Vortec are bad for bad carbon deposit in the EGR Valve. Remove it and clean it with carb cleaner or injector cleaner from a can, spray the carbon away then spray some silicon lubeacator from a can before re installing it. Good luck oh and check your vacum lines before you get your hands too dirty.

I had the same problem; it could be one of two things: First check the Enhanced Distributor Ignition Systems (EDI) a simple check. If that's not the problem then remove the intake manifold. Check both the presure and return fuel lines under the manifold. More than likely they have rubbed together creating a fuel leak.

New starter, new alternator, new fuel filter, turns over wont start a little gas in carburator step on gas let off gas turn key starts then runs

check the fuel pump, it sounds like as it sits its losing pressure, when you first turn the key to the on ( not start) do you hear the fuel pump running then shut off? your fuel pump should keep pressure on the line at all times, so if you do hear the pump start it should be a very brief spurt and thats it, you can have the pressure checked at many repair shops for free or low charge,

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy. Cranks, but won`t start. Fuel is full. Engine stopped while driving. Battery light came on. Any suggestions?

the battery indicator light usually comes on after a lose of power. Sounds to me like either bad gas, clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. Easiest way to check this is have someone turn the key while you stand at rear side of vehicle and listen for the whinning noise a functioning fuel pump makes as it pressurizes the system.

P.S you dont have to start vehicle to check pump. only requires turning the key to the on position. Good Luck

Hi, back again. Changed the fuel filter and a new

No fuel pump reset switch on a Jimmy. If your pressure goes up to normal, then drops back down after 2 seconds, you need a new fuel pump as the return is not working correctly to keep fuel in the lines.

98 gmc jimmy loses power to a stop

the fuel pump could actually be malfunctioning. and the reason that you are able to restart and drive again is because when you turn the key on it is allowing the fuel pump to pressureize your system. but while the fuel pump is continuasly running it is loosing the fuel pressure. this is common on the cheap fuel pumps. i am not sure about were you got the fuel pump from but in all of my experiances with this problem i find that the fuel pumps have been boughten at a napa store.
i hope this helps you out.
and you could attach a fuel pressure gauge on to the fuel rail and start the car and watch the pressure to see if it is droping.
