SOURCE: over heating problems even after changing everything in the coolant system.

Maybe you need to change head gasket, leakdown test should identify that.

Make sure you have gotten all the air out of the system by running the car with the cap off for a bit.. also make sure the radiator overflow if at proper level.. next look at your radiator and see if it is plugged up with trash bugs what ever this will slow your cooling big time.. also look between your radiator and your air condition condensor and make sure its clean also there can be trash in there causing it to heat .. also check belts make sure they are tight.. really sounds like you started with air in system and system might be air locked needing to run a bit with cap off when cool. dont take cap off when hot ... make sure over flow is full also... thanks and holler if you need more. How do I bleed the cooling system?

Turn the heat control to max and remove radiator cap - add coolant as much as possible. Make sure overflow container is filled to correct level - then Start car and run - after the thermostat opens water level may go down some - keep adding coolant till it is totally full. Turn engine off and put radiator cap back on tight.

Running rough and white thick smoke from exhaust

sounds like you are burning coolant. sounds like you have a headgasket issue or cracked block. is your coolant level low?? in the overflow bottle and in the raadiator? something tells me that you will find that coolant is low. you are pulling coolant into the engine and it goes into the cylinder and pass the exhaust to the back of the car. the white smoke is the coolant burning off and thats why the car runs rough, because coolant is not flamable so it doesnt burn. this results in the spark plug not firing right and having rough running condition.

No heat, gauge goes up and down. coolant was flushed and changed the thermostat.

Sounds like you still have air in the system. Is there a little bleed valve on top of your thermosatat housing? That is for getting air out. If it doesn't have one: take radiator cap off, turn heater to full hot (not the blower motor, keep that off), start car and let it reach normal operating temperature. When thermostat opens, add coolant as necessary to radiator and to overflow tank. Replace cap on radiator. Good luck.

My Venture overheated and I get cold air in passenger compartment when it is supposed to be heating

Normally, if an engine is running hot and the heater is blowing cold air that means that the coolant level is low. Make sure the radiator and overflow bottle are full. Leave the cap loose for a day or two and keep topping up the coolant level. This should bleed out any air and give you back your heat. If it is still running hot then you will probably have to change the thermostat. It should be changed every couple years irregardless if it is still working. Hope this helps.

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

REPLACE THERMOSTAT IF TOP COOLANT COOLANT HOSE GOING TO RADIATOR IS HOT TO TOUCH THERMOSTAT OPEN. TO BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM FIRST YOU NEED TO ADD COOLANT TO THE COOLANT OVER FLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING AND STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.WAIT 3 MINUTES IF COOLANT DROPS ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.WITH RADIATOR OVER CAP OFF CRANK ENGINE FOR MINUTE WATCH COOLANT LEVEL AT OVERFLOW JUG.IF COOLANT DROPS ADD MORE COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG.WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING IN OVERFLOW JUG.SCREW BACK ON THE RADIATOR CAP TO OVERFLOW JUG.WHILE ENGINE IDLING WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE WHEN TEMPERATURE START CLIMBING TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT A WHILE KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.WHEN COOLANT COOL DOWN SOME. PLACE A LARGE RAG OVER THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG OPEN CAP LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL PRESSURE RELEASED, THEN REMOVE CAP ADD MORE COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG TO THE FULL COLD MARK.THEN REPEAT THE PROCESS SCREW BACK ON THE COOLANT OVERFLOW RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.THEN START ENGINE WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE WATCH COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE WHEN COOLANT TEMPERATURE START RISING TURN OFF ENGINE AGAIN WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN ENOUGH TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED TAKE PLACE LARGE RAG OVER RADIATOR CAP WHICH IS THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG CAP OPEN CAP LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL PRESSURE RELEASED ADD COOLANT UNTIL AT FULL COLD MARK. WHEN YOUR COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING.AND TOP RADIATOR HOSE VERY HOT THERMOSTAT OPEN AND AIR IS OUT THE COOLANT SYSTEM. MAKE SURE YOUR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG HAS COOLANT IN IT,WHEN ENGINE COOL DOWN CHECK COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG KEEP COOLANT LEVEL AT FULL COLD MARK.BECAUSE IF OVERFLOW JUG IS EMPTY THATS A SIGN RADIATOR COOLANT LEVEL LOW.WHEN OVERFLOW JUG EMPTY IT WILL ALLOW AIR GET IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND CAUSE CAR TO OVERHEAT.WHEN REPLACING THERMOSTAT ALSO REPLACE THE RADIATOR CAP ON THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.

1998 chevy venture low engine coolant light comes on but the coolant level is good. heater heat at max or is cold air. is this the thermastat?

you need to check the coolant in the radiator, not just in the overflow tank, you are describing a low coolant problem, the thermostat could be the resign you have no heat but it would not explain the low coolant light, remove the radiator cap ( only when the engine is cold ) and start the engine with the cap off and then fill up the radiator........HAVE FUN

Engine over heats 2000 cadallic deville northstar engine

flush your radiator first.with the thermostat out you should see the water moving if not bad water pump.this engine needs the thermostat to function properly and either a 50/50 coolant or straight coolant so it does not boil over.also make sure your fans are coming on
