Hi is the pipes definitely feel to warm our could the sensor be faulty for the gauge.

the best thing to get is the Haynes manual for your car at advanced auto or autozone or somewhere like that and the book will tell you how to take everything apart and put it back. i think the manual is about $16.00

these cars are notorious for that.It needs to be "burped" when your car is cold then open the resivoir(coolant).Start the car .As it warms you will notice the tank level will rise.Do not let it boil over!! when it starts to get warm then turn the car off and watch for bubbles in the resivior.add more coolant as the bubbles come out .repeat until no more bubbles come up.The problem with these cars is that an air pocket forms in the water pump.

Replace the low coolant sensor right side if radiator. When you replaced the radiator
they may have installed the old sensor.

I had the same problem.

maybe you have a blown head gasket your leaking head gasket when ur car is cold open your radiator cap see if the coolant in it try to tap up coolant until the neck of your radiator then start your engine and observe the radiator neck if the collant puks it out if your coolant is pukking out meaning you have a leak or blown head gasket and thats the cuz of your overheating

REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF COOLANT LOW, ADD MORE COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.REASON POUR COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW MOST GM CARS DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP.WHEN YOU GET COOLANT LEVEL OKAY, CRANK CAR LET IT IDLE UNTIL ENGINE GET HOT BUILD UP PRESSURE THEN TURN OFF CAR.CHECK FOR COOLANTS LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR HOSES,CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR, CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF YOU SEE COOLANT LEAKING FROM WEEP HOLE REPLACE WATER PUMP. Time to replace the radiator. Over time, the water added to the coolant system will have the calcium bond with the aluminum in the radiator at the narrowest points, restricting flow. The thermostat compensates until the cooling capacity of the radiator is reached. Changing the thermostat does nothing. The coolant needs to be replaced with new coolant which has the corrosion inhibitors that prevent the formation of these deposits.

My 1997 Dodge Intrepid overheats. I've replaced the thermostat, and it continues to overheat. I noticed adjacent to one of the radiator hoses, a ribbed hose that is split. Could this cause the car to...


Now that you've eliminated the thermostat, it could be a number of other things. Don't drive the car too far until you've fixed the overheating problem - overheating can destroy an engine.

That split ribbed hose you see is plastic wire loom - it carries and protects electrical wires, and is not the cause of overheating.

1. Low coolant level
2. Radiator hose split/cracked, causing low coolant level.
3. Head Gasket - leaking, causing low coolant level
4. Thermostat - stuck closed (you eliminated this possibility)
5. Radiator cap - worn/damaged
6. Radiator fins - obstructed by debris/cardboard
7. Water Pump belt - missing/broken
8. Heater Core - leaking, causing low coolant level
9. Intake Manifold Gasket - leaking, worn, damaged
10. Radiator Fan Relay - faulty
11. Radiator Fan Blade - broken, missing
12. Radiator Fan Sensor/Switch - faulty
13. Water Pump - leaking, causing low coolant level
14. Radiator Fan Motor - faulty

My primary suspects would be Rad Fan Relay (#10), and
Rad Fan Switch (#12).

My car is overheating, but nothig is leaking. I think it my thermometer, but could it be my upper radiator hose?


If the level of the coolant is ok you don´t have a leak, maybe is the thermostat, and it´s located at the end of the radiator hose ( a kind of a "T" hose)

Overheating bubbleling in resevoir


bubbling into the overflow may mean a head gasket is gone, it may also mean the radiator or thermostat is blocked. or there is a leak
Clean and flush radiator, check the radiator fins for corrosion
pressure test coolant system
(if this is ok then)
new thermostat
new coolant

Overheating can be the result of several things including: No coolant, stuck thermostat, cracked head, blown head gasket, bad water pump, cracked radiator side tanks, and poin holes in one or more hoses.

Start with the easiest things first. Check coolant level, if it's low you need to find out why. If it's at a normal level you know the coolant is not circulating through the motor. To test this run the car to temperature then feel the upper radiator hose, it should be hot and firm to the touch. Next feel the lower radiator hose it to should be hot and firm to the touch. If it's not the coolant isn't flowing through the motor which is the result of a stuck thermostat.

If the thermostat checks out ok crawl under the car and check all the connections between hoses/motor/radiator. Look at the side tanks of the radiator. If there's a carack in one they will only leak while the system is under pressure. Next check to make sure the water pump is circulating the coolant and not leaking. A siezed water pump will usually stop the pulley from turning resulting in a broken belt.

NExt look around the area of the head gaskets for signs of leakage, again this will only leak while the system is under pressure. Check the oil, if it looks milky there's coolant in it which is a sure sign of a gasket failure or cracked head. Good luck.

there is a coolant cap on the overflow bottle check it for seal
i'd just replace it
also if you put the new thermostat in backward the overheating would be significant

it sounds like you need a new Radiator or you are leaking coolant and thats why its overheating, check your rad fins and then your coolant level
