If the pressure is slow to rise, you should consider changing the fuel filter if it has not been done in the past 30,000 miles.
Next, disconnect a spark plug and check for spark while engine is cranking. Use a spark tester or old spark plug grounded to the engine block.
Let me know.

SOURCE: I have a 99 chevy silverado. It started acting up,

check for any bad vacume lines or lose power cables. Are there any truble codes you can rent a code scaner at any autozone (you get all the money back when you return the scanner). If its a 4.3 you could have bad camshaft sensor. 4.8 and 5.3 you might have bad spark plug wires or cam sensors as well.Hope this helps. get the codes read and get back to me with more info and we will figure this out.

SOURCE: Truck bogs down when I accelerate.

I've got 260K on a 2003 4.8 Silverado. Fuel pump has caused this same problem, 1 after market fuel pump lasted 20,000, the same replacement was 30,000 miles. I made my mechanic put the correct fuel pump from GM using the VIN . The other time I was losing power at about 180K miles it was the cat converter. Hope this helps

My 1989 f350 duelly starts in am and dies quickly bought coil and ecm cap rotor and backfires and shakes and dies any ideas.i was thinking distributor or fuel pump please help

If you spray starting fluid in the air intake, does it stay running? I would go to harber freight and get a cheap fuel pressure tester and hook it into the fuel line. It hsould be about 40 psi, and hold for about 30 minutes after shut down without bleeding down too much, like 5 psi.

Try this too. Turn key to ON, wait 5 seconds for the pump to shut off. Then turn key off and listen for the realy to "Cclick" under the dash (about 10 seconds). Repeat this. Then start engine. This primes the lines & injectors if you are getting bleed down due to a bad check valve in the fuel pump.
report resuts. pleasre rate assistance.

Maybe fuel injection?

TRY REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER , IF THAT HELPS ,BUT DOESN'T FIX IT,IT MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP,BUT IT'S DOUBTFUL IF IT RUNS GOOD AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ,THEN YOU CAN TRY CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY,IF THAT DOESN'T HELP ,MAKE SURE TO GET THROTTLE BODY & INTAKE CLEANER SPRAY, BECAUSE OTHER SPRAYS,SUCH AS CARB OR BRAKE CLEANER, ETC, WILL DAMAGE IT ,& ALSO GET SOME MAF (MASS AIR FLOW) SENSOR CLEANER SPRAY & CLEAN THE MAF (MASS AIR FLOW) SENSOR ,TO DO BOTH YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE AIR INTAKE TUBE AND AIR FILTER BOX COVER ,WHEN CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY YOU NEED TO OPEN THE FLAP IN THE THROTTLE BODY BY EITHER HAVING SOMEONE PRESS THE GAS PEDAL OR YOU CAN DO IT BY HAND TO GET ALL OF IT, AND THE INSIDE OF THE INTAKE CLEAN,YOU WILL WANT TO PUT AN OLD RAG OR SOMETHING UNDER THE OPENING TO CATCH THE EXCESS CLEANER COMING BACK OUT,YOU CAN ALSO USE YOUR FINGER TO HELP GET THE BLACK OILY SOOT OFF OF THE FLAP & AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE TB (THROTTLE BODY) ,BUT DON'T SPRAY TOO MUCH LIKE 3/4 OF THE CAN INSIDE THE INTAKE ,BECAUSE IT WILL FLOOD THE ENGINE,& IT COULD VAPOR LOCK THE ENGINE, IT WILL TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO CRANK,AND YOU WILL HAVE TO HOLD THE GAS PEDAL DOWN JUST A LITTLE AFTER IT CRANKS TO CLEAR IT OUT AFTER CLEANING IT ,BUT SAVE SOME OF THE SPRAY TO USE WHILE IT IS RUNNING ,YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK THE THROTTLE BY HAND OR HAVE SOMEBODY INSIDE THE CAR TO DO THIS ,BUT BE SURE NOT TO OVER REV IT ,AND DON'T SPRAY FOR TOO LONG OR THE CATS WILL GET TOO HOT AND TURN CHERRY RED, & OF COURSE THERE ARE OTHER THINGS IT COULD BE ,BUT TRY THOSE FIRST ,& IF THOSE DON'T WORK,WRITE ON HERE AGAIN ,AND SOMEBODY WILL HELP.

Engine will not fire immediately when key engaged unless accelerater pumped prior to key engagment, already changed fuel filter twice

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is allowing the fuel pressure to bleed down. While sitting (key off) it should hold about 30 psi of fuel pressure to keep the system primed. When it bleeds down it causes an extended start, you sometimes have to cycle the key a couple of time before it will start. If this is the case then replace fuel pressure regulator. FYI pumping the accelerator on a fuel injected vehicle does not prime the system.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

check the fuel pressure regulator, it sounds like it may bleeding down. It should hold a prime when key is off I think 30 psi min. if it is bleeding down it will cause an exteneded crank.

Silverado not starting unless prime

There is a check valve in the fuel pump that sounds like it may have gone bad. Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60 to 65psi during the prime and will drop 5 psi when the engine is running. Once the fuel line is primed, check to see how fast you lose your prime. Since you replaced your injection system, we can eliminate the fuel pressure regulator leaking which was common on the injection system your truck run's on. If the fuel pressure drops fast then it's going to be a bad check valve at the fuel pump and it may be time to replace the fuel pump it self. Good luck and hope this helps. Note: do not try to start the engine with putting gas through the throttle body, it's been know for small fires to start and burn the spider injectors.

clogged air filter can make a car hard to start also.leaking fuel injectors flooding out engine.after turning off.take a fuel pressure gauge hook it up.turn ignition on .dont start engine.let your fuel pressure build up.55-62 psi.then turn off ignition.if fuel pressure start leaking down.your fuel injectors are leaking. if they dont leak. you have problems in the ignition system.
