The fuel pump has a check valve that prevents fuel from draining back into the tank with the engine off.

Delayed start after sitting all night or for an 1 hour, will start on 2nd attempt

Check Fuel Pressure at the motor with a gauge
or scan tool & see if it holds

If not then the fuel pump may be bad

Also the pressure regulator could be bad,but they don't fail often

I would change any spark plugs in the motor over 3 years
I would change any fuel filter in there over 3 years
I would change front O2 Sensors in the motor over 100,000 miles
I would clean the MAF Sensor

Then check fuel pressure & fuel trim

Replay pulled out of box car still runs 1997 Thunderbird

The fuel pump is failing the pressure check valve is no good, it should hold pressure after shut down and not drop more than a few pounds. the pump will; need to be replaced. You need a car lift to replace the pump as the entire exhaust system must be unbolted and removed to get the tank out of the car, there is not enough clearance on the ground to do this.

96 chevrolet blazer 4.3 when truck sits over night it cranks over for 3-6 seconds before starting. will start a little quicker if gas pedal is slightly pressed?

There are several common fixes for this problem. Fuel spider is one, fuel pressure regulator is another. However, the most common and likely is your fuel pump module assembly. The fuel pump has to be able to hold pressure from the fuel tank all the way to the regulator. It works just like a foot valve on a well. When it goes bad it let's the fuel in the lines & fuel filter bleed the fuel back to the tank when not in use.when you try to start it after it sits, the fuel has to flow all the way back to the engine. Although the fuel pump is the most expensive of these items, more often than not, that will fix it. Fuel filter should also be checked and replaced if installing a new pump.

Will turn over will not start unless you spary ether in carb. will run then the next day you have to do the same thing

You need to do a fuel pressure test to find out what the problem is. I have ran into this before about 3 times. actually and everytime it turned out to be the fuel pump that is in the fuel tank It has check valve that holds a certain amount of fuel in the fuel rail when the car sits over night. The other thing is the fuel pressure regulator. You can get a gauge at auto parts store that connects into the fuel rail to see what the pressure is. The fuel pressure should hold to at least 10 to 15 lbs all the time. If it drops to zero that you have a problem with the pump or regulator.

My car keeps shutting off

It could be several things . One i would have the fuel pressure tested , you may have a bad fuel pump. Two a bad coil pack , if they are going bad they can heat up and fail.Three the ECM or CPU may have gone bad or going bad . Witch would explane after sitting will start again.I would start with the fuel system making sure you have fuel pressure . It could also be the fuel filter that could explane low fuel pressure .

Fuel Reg........

Fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI in 24 hours, the symptom you have is more than one issue, first verify the system holds fuel pressure over night, the pressure regulator will not cause this issue, the check valve built into the fuel pump will. On to the dieing concern, clean the idle speed control air bypass valve and the throttle valve with throttle body cleaner spray with the engine running at high idle, spray in at least 1/2 can of the cleaner, next disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then drive for 2 days under varying conditions to "relearn the idle strategy".
