SOURCE: Right lower ball joint. Torn loose

If you torn the ball joint out, you very well could have more damage.
If you plan on doing the work yourself, I would put the car up on stands, and take the front wheel off, and do a through examination of the whole assembly.
Once you have a complete assesement of all of the damage you can go to your local parts house and get the parts.
If you have to replace the lower arm, you will need probably need some specialized tools (like a spring compressor).
After you're done changing parts, you will need to get a front end alignment.

SOURCE: Lower Control Arm Bushing replacement

I just did this job on my 98 regal, and I own the service manuals also. The lower control arm bushing that usually goes, is the front one. The rear one doesn't usually go, it is horizontally mounted. The front one for some reason is vertical. The control arm must be removed, and put in a vise. The front bushings outer metal sleeve, must be driven out with a chisel. It comes out easily. The new bushing can be tapped in with a hammer. Hope this helps!

pressed in but can be removed by cutting with a hacksaw in reverse so to speak ,remove blade and push through bush to cut out the metal casing then pull new ones through with a long bolt and socket

You can replace them seperately,but they need pressed out and in. Other methods of removing and installing likely will damage control arm.

How to replace lower ball joint on bmw e46

I understand that there is a tool designed to press out the outboard ball joint. I have never heard of anyone using one.
You can press out the ball joint using a hydraulic press. Actually you would need to do both ball joints because you will trash the inboard ball joint getting the control arm off to take it over to your press. Neither the dealers nor the independent shops do that either.
Your front suspension has very little adjustment, and those aluminum control arms get bent. You would cry if you went through all the effort of replacing the individual ball joints and then realized that the control arm was bent.
So far as I know, Dealers, shops, and DIYers all buy complete control arm assemblies and bolt them on. Be prepared to hit your pickle fork with a big hammer to separate those ball joints from the car.
You will almost certainly need fresh control arm bushings if you replace the arm, and you probably need them even if you are using the old arm.

While you are repairing just a hobby, let's work a real mechanic, it is big and heavy work and needs spring to push a special tools and working at pushed spring is very dangerous!!! Think what might happen!!!

I know people complain only when fuel levels skyrocket(increase). You should be happy your fuel consumption has plummeted (reduced). However, for BMWs it is usually advisable you change the set. If a pully is bad, it usually affects other parts. Your BMW is rather old...these problems usually come with aging BMWs which usually have a lifespan.

How to replace the rear lower control arm on bmw 2004 325ci

It's not an easy job, you have to remove the 4 large bolts hold the bushing in place for the trailing arm. I would go to an garage to have it done as sometimes the bolts can be broken when attempting to take them off.

1995 bmw 525i

Very common BMW problem. The front lateral arms that support the front to rear motion of the wheel. BMW calls it the upper, lower support arm. Two arms connect there. one left to right (think typical lower control arm, and this arm) It has a ball joint that connects to the lower most part of the strut and extends rearward to the rear crossmember and has a large bushing pressed into the arm. You can replace just the bushing if the ball joint end is ok. Bushings are about $45 each and you will need a press.

The suspension height is stored and read in the cars ecu and as you have replaced the lower arm, the ride height would have changed. Assuming you have driven the car, slacken of the lower arm locating nuts and bolts and bounce the car on that corner. Re-tighten the bolts/ nuts and drive the car. If the light still remains on then the ecu will need to be re-set. BMW charge approx £45 to do this and prviding that you have no other faults with the car this should then be ok.
