Question about Audi A6

2005 Audi A6 4.2 with heavy steering

The power steering in my A6 doesn't seem to be speed sensitive. It always has a heavy feel to is - as if it is not increasing the assist at low speed. I do not hear any noises, and the steering has never been apart. The car does have 80K miles and the power steering fluid has not been changed.

Check the power steering fluid, it could be that it's just low. If it's full it might be time to get it changed. Also check the tension on the motor belt. If it's loose you won't get full power to the pump.

Good ideas, check the simple stuff first. The fluid was just a bit low when I checked it a few weeks ago, but not enough to make a difference. I'll give the belt a feel to see if it is tight and report back.

Why has my SSPS light turned on..what is the problem and how to solve it?

SPSS or Speed Sensitive Power Steering warning light.
Not something you can fix unless you know how to pull a steering column out and have a scan tool to reset the light once the sensor is replaced. The sensor itself is expensive ( over $200 )

You might have something wrong with your power steering. Could mean low power steering fluid if you haven't check it lately. Bad sensor like what happen to my car or things wrong with your power steering pump, control arms

The only thing that happens with a bad sensor is that you have full time power assist.
Speed Sensitive Steering reduces the amount of power assist at hwy speeds so as to give the driver better "road feel".

Hope this helps and just keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer. Thank you for using FixYa.

2005 Suzuki Forenza warning light: Right side of dash, looks like a steering wheel with exclamation point to the right of it....Power steering seems fine and fluid is full. What is this?.....Thank you!

Speed Sensitive Power Steering

(SSPS) Warning Light

Your vehicle is equipped with Speed Sensitive Power Steering (SSPS).

This is a computer-controlled power steering assist system.

The warning light you are describing will come on briefly when you turn the ignition to ON as a check to show you the bulb is working.

Then it should go out after a few seconds. If the warning light does not come on, have it fixed so it will be able to warn you if there is a problem.

If the warning light stays on, or comes on while you are driving, the SSPS system may not be working.
Your computer will need to be scanned to determine what the problem is with your SSPS system.

I haver\ a light on dashboard that looks like a steering wheel with a ! what does it mean

It's your speed sensitive power steering light. Your speed sensitive power steering makes your wheel harder to turn when you're going fast and easier to turn when you are going slow. I have a 2005 Forenza and mine keeps coming on and off but I can't figure out why yet. Hope it helps!

Miata steering feel

Some cars have progressive power steering, light at slow speeds for parking etc. But at speed a heavier feel so you can feel what the grip is like on the front tyres when driven hard. But check the power steering fluid level as well, the pump could be leaking.

Heavy steering on 2005 corolla automatic

No electric control.
If no abnormal noises or feel from power steering system, no leaks, etc, I would assume it normal. Road feel should improve with speed, but this is really dependent on what you've been accustomed to.

Steering problem

Your power steering engine/ pully has gone bad. needs a replacement then.

Take care and do fix it on time before you get the steering rack damaged.

Good luck.
