    Code p1618?

This code indicates a communication problem between the engine and trans control units. When there is a problem with the trans, the control unit sends a signal to the engine control unit to turn the check engine light on. There is a problem with the that wire or corrosion on the control unit connectors.

I have a 1995 eclipse. It cranks fine but no power to the coil and the fuel pump isn't running and the check engine light does not come on and it wont start.HELP!!!

Hi, it might be that the engine control unit fuse has blown. You will have to check all the fuses as most of the systems in the vehicle is integrated with the engine control circuit. If all fuses are fine you will have to take the vehicle to a dealer in order to code the key to the anti-theft unit. This unit gives the engine control unit authorisation to activate the fuel and ignition systems.

The control box was stolen. We had another similar one of the same model from an accidented car. Now the engine starts but the engine check light does not come on and there is a sign of a car with a key in...

Sounds like the key your using is a transponder key, that is, inside the key fob is a small integrated circuit which sends a security code to the control unit which then allows the control unit to disengage the engine cut out ( the security system).. If the key your using has a different code to the one that is programmed into the control unit, then the control unit will not disengage the cut out and the engine will not start. you need to have the key you are using programmed into the new control unit. This can be done by the Toyota dealership or any garage that has the correct scanner for the vehicle. Alternatively, you may be able to find a business which will disable the security in the control unit. This is an extreme option as disabling the security system will mean that it is easier to steal the car. My advice is to have your exisiting key programmed into the control unit. This should solve the issues of no starting and the ecu lamp in the dash not working. The lamp with the key in it is showing you that the security system in the control unit is preventing the car from starting and re-programming your existing key into the system should fix these problems..

An engine control unit (ECU) is an electronic control unit which controls various aspects of an internal combustion engine's operation. The simplest ECUs control only the quantity of fuel injected into each cylinder each engine cycle. More advanced ECUs found on most modern cars also control the ignition timing, variable valve timing (VVT), the level of boost maintained by the turbocharger (in turbocharged cars), and other peripherals.
ECUs determine the quantity of fuel, ignition timing and other parameters by monitoring the engine through sensors. These can include, MAP sensor, throttle position sensor, air temperature sensor, oxygen sensor and many others. Often this monitoring and control is done using a control loop (such as a PID controller).
Before ECUs, most engine parameters were fixed. The quantity of fuel per cylinder per engine cycle was determined by a carburetor or injector pump.
