SOURCE: engine falls below 500rpm lights dim and engine stalls out

I had a bad air conditioner compressor that caused this same problem. It had almost completley seized and gave the car some real trouble starting. The burning smell I had was caused from the belt rubbing around the seized pully.

SOURCE: 2006 Envoy stalling when idels and won't stay running

Clean your Throttle body and pay attention to the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve passageway to try to clean the IAC. A dirty or faulty IAC will cause your engine to stall at idle, the job of the IAC is to open the passage way through the throttle body to regulate the amount of air to enter the engine to keep it from stalling when the Envoy is at idle.

Start with the simple and clean the throttle body and inspect any loose or damaged wire leads to the throttle body. Replace or repair any signs of damage.

Thank you for using Fixya and good luck.

SOURCE: My 2003 GMC Envoy tachometer is reading 5-7000 rpm

I see this a lot on the 03-06 Envoy instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board. It can be fixed though, check out this page about how to get it fixed - Envoy tachometer not working

Cleaning the throttle body is certainly the right thing to try first. Make sure you clean the throttle plate as well.

Roaring engine noise in cab when idling. Idles at 500-950 rpm..When raising rpm in idle noise goes away.2002 GMC Envoy 6 cly.

Should idle between 500-600. Clean your throttle body with the battery disconnected to help with the fluctuation. The roaring very well could be your fan clutch. Fan clutches are a known problem with our platform. If engaged, will sound like an airplane.

Rpm's fluctuate at idle

The oil pressure quage is moving around because the engine is slowing down and speeding up. As far as the idle surging goes try this.

Low rpm 500rpm

IF you have changed the air intake system then you interfere with the air velocity that the sensor reads to judge how much air is required by the engine You will probably experiencing other problems as well such as poor fuel economy and lack of power at certain revs.. If you want to use the mods you have made you may have to have the chip reprogrammed

2006 envoy at idle of 500 rpm, voltage meter shows low charging, air conditioner quits cooling, lights dim. is the alternator bad?

This is too low an idle speed, it should be around 620 RPM. You probably need to have the throttle body cleaned.

2004 GMC Envoy- Whenever the heater is turned on the RPM drops to about 500RPM and sometimes dies. What could be causing this problem?

The throttle body needs to be cleaned, grime in this area prevents the throttle plate from closing completely and allowing air to enter, making the air/fuel mixture lean.

06 envoy has a low idle while car is running but not moving. RPM's drop to about 3000 when car is warmed up and sitting at a light or not moving. It then revs up to normal when driving

First check the air filter for restrictions.
Second try cleaning the throttle body. It will build up a carbon deposit around the throttle plate.
Third you may consider having the pcm program updated. The program does have changes for various things including the fan clutch. It can stay engaged.

'93 Impreza L wagon, will turn on but will drop rpm under 1K.

most older cars were designed to run between 600 to 800 rpm so its not an issue, if the aircon is on it should pick up a few hundred rpm but dont be to concerned unless its dropping below 500rpm. these cars have a lot of low end torque so you wont have any trouble getting off the line.
