I decided to check the idol air control valve, when I removed it I found the problem right behind it. The P C V valve hose was just about into where it fastens to the intake, the other end was bad also. Cost me aout $6.00 Where auto parts stores were telling me parts would cost two or three hundred $$.

SOURCE: check engine light on,idols rough, fine at all other speeds.

It either has a vacuum leak or a dirty MAF. To test for vac leaks spray the engine with carb cleaner to see if the engine speed changes., if it does you fond the leak. The most common leak is pcv line coming straight off the back of the throttle body. Check there first. Also check to make sure there are no air leaks between the throttle body and the mass air flow. Don't replace the idle speed motor or the tps, they won't fix it. It is possible the o2 is the problem, but it usually isn't. P0107 Is usually always from the stuff i listed above.

2001 cadlillac Seville sts northstar. Check engine light on and running rough. Mechanic said running lean on both banks Drives just fine at highway speeds. Only at stop lights and idle will it shake.

Have the fuel pressure checked. If pressure is correct, there may be an air or vacuum leak letting unmetered air into the intake. Could be a loose vacuum hose, an air leak at the intake manifold gasket, a torn big air boot from the air filter to the throttle body. If you are sure there are no air leaks, you may need the injectors checked for proper fuel spray, but with both banks running lean it is doubtful it is an injector problem. Check fuel pressure first.

Possible causes

- Faulty Oxygen Sensor

- Vacuum leak affecting bank 1 only

- Fuel injector problem bank 1

- Check for cylinder misfire on bank 1

- Engine mechanical condition

Tech notes

Though the Oxygen (O2) sensor, the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a lean system, which means that there is either not enough fuel or and excessive amount of air in the system. Start by checking for vacuum leaks.

When is the code detected?

The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected bank 1 oxygen (O2) at its lean limit

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1131 Ford Description

A Heated Exhaust Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating rich at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-lean condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.

rough idle can be caused by vacuum leak, test the lines into the intake, if the dont hold vacuum, follow the line to detect the cause. Also the PCV could be broken and lead to a wrong air mixture. If check engine light is on I would expect lean bank codes...

Rough idle vibrates and po171 code service engine soon. jamesrowland9@aol.com

Hi, a Ford P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1, and P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2. These codes commonly occur on many Ford vehicles, and are set when the powertrain control module (PCM) sees the air/fuel mixture is running too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).
When the Check Engine Light comes on, either one of these codes, or both, may be found when a code reader or scan tool is plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector. IF the vehicle is driven long enough, typically both codes will be set.
A P0171 lean code for bank 1 is the cylinder bank on the RIGHT (passenger) side of the engine on Ford vehicles with a V6 or V8 engine and rear-wheel drive.

A lean fuel condition may exist if the engine is sucking in too much air and/or the fuel system is not delivering enough fuel. If bad enough, a lean fuel condition may cause lean misfire, a rough idle, hesitation or stumble when accelerating, and/or poor engine performance.
Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
If the problem is not enough fuel, the underling cause may be a weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, leaky fuel pressure regulator or dirty fuel injectors.

U have a intake vacuum leak at bank two. look for a disconnected vacuum hose or leaking intake manifold gasket, spray the bank with carb spray, when u hit a vacuum leak the engine will change sound, repair as ness.
