If you have an automatic transmission, grab the shifter lever and press the thumb release button three times. This will tell the vehicle to let go of the key.

I used the wrong key on my 2006 vw passat and now i cant use the right key because the panel still says immobilizer active

You can reset it by disconnecting the battery for an hour. When you reconnect the battery, make sure the correct key is fully inserted into the ignition but not turned on. It will re-pair the chip in the key and the ignition lock to the recognised by the ECM and antitheft system. Make sure you know your radio code :>)

Car wont start..after i stuck wet keys in ignition

Give the key-hole a few days to dry out. There are electronics inside the key-hole that sense the key's position and the immobilizer chip within the key. If these short out, or any other circuits with them, the car won't start/run properly.

Immobilizer active reset on 2006 volkswagon passat

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

Hi,
Please try the spare key, if this has the same result then you need to get the vehicle to a dealer.

How do you turn off the immobilizer on a Volkswagon Passat B6 and remove the wrong key that was used?

This happened to me on a used car which I was given 2 keys, 1 good, 1 bad (not knowing). It locked the bad key in the ignition when I tried it and then went to pull it out. The fix was to hold down the unlock button on the good key while pulling out the stuck key from the ignition.

VERY frustrating that this isn't stated in the manual, in fact the dealer didn't even offer this info up when I called them, it was trial and error.

How do you turn off the immobilizer on a Volkswagon Passat and remove the wrong key that was used?

Just happened to me in a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T - Automatic. You simply need to depress the brake and then press the button on the shift lever 3 times. You will then hear the key being released and you can pull it out.

Try turning the steering wheel before turning the key. It may have been turned and locked prior to turning off the ignition.Good luck
