Front wheels locked up

The problem is not in the breaks,they open &close as they should

I'm sorry I don't have enough info to answer this question for you. Do keep in mind that you need to keep your rear brakes adjusted properly. This helps the front from having to do all the work and sometimes lock up.

not work, do tell what makes you think it dont work (a lamp) or tires slipping or dead tires. (by tires mean that and traction)??????????

first off, we dont know what your tires are touching.

on road, or off road. pavement or ICE or snow.

that matters big time . (you read manual and match MODE to Road)

In 4A mode the center differential is electronically-controlled and rear drive wheel bias. The on-board computer monitors for any sign of rear drive wheel slip (loss of traction)

If loss of traction is detected, the center differential is told to send a share of the engine\'s torque to the front drive wheels. It will not let the front driveshaft turn at the same speed as the rear driveshaft.



What about traction management?

1997-2002 model Ford Expeditions offered an optional limited-slip rear differential (LSD). A conventional open rear differential was standard along with the conventional open front differential and the electronic locking center differential.

comment with out LSD, one tire can spin, on say ice.

but the other 3 tires dont, in full time.

Lift the door handle as if you were opening it

Hold the handle & use a round phillips to hook
& rotate the white door latch to the open position

2006 ford focus front right tire keeps locking up. can i take out the ABS system?


May not be the ABS, the ABS is meant to do the opposite, it may be that the Brake Caliper has gone bad, apparently is stays closed after releasing break pedal causing wheel to lock up.

Changed the master cylender and vacuum booster and blead the system by the book and still cant get breaks without pumping them.


There must be air in the system some where. i am not sure of the year ,make and model of this van and also not sure of the brake system, for example if you have drum brakes in the rear then first adjust them.
The next step is to fill the master cylinder, make sure there are no leak anywhere.Next step start at the master cylinder, at the line to master do not worry about abs system. have someone inside ready to pump brake pedal and hold.Have them pump pedal three times and hold pedal with a little pressure.make sure as you open the bleeder they push on pedal and keep foot on brake until you tell them to pump again. the pedal is to be pumped three times every times.
With pedal pumped start at master lines, open one allow to bleed a little then close and move to next and allow to bleed. if master has more than two lines then pump again and do two, open one and close then open two and close then pump again. After master is bleed a few times and no air comes out then move to right rear wheel, pump three times and hold while you open bleeder, this is to be done about four times to make sure you get a good flow of fluid with no air .
NOTE: always keep master cylinder full, check after each wheel. make sure the person pumping the brakes does not lift until you say and the bleeder is closed. After the right rear wheel you will move to left rear and then right front wheel and last is the left front wheel.
Make sure there are no bad wheel bearings, lift wheel of the ground and grab and check for movement by pulling wheel out and in from top to bottom, the last thing is make sure the caliper slides are free moving.
If the caliper does not slide on the bracket freely then the piston will not stay on pad and pedal will need to be pumped to get a pedal. good day.

1997 subaru legacy with awd transmission - driveshaft has been removed due to bad u-joints and trans. locked up the front wheels. What do we need to unlock them?


I have a 93 legacy. Subaru's always run in front wheel drive until a sensor tells the computer the front wheels are not turning the same speed as the rear wheels( spining on ice or sand etc.). At that point all wheels will be driven though a clutch to the rear wheels. This is not good if the car needs to be towed with the front wheels in the air! This "all wheel drive" can be shut down for towing. Under the hood on my 93, there is an in line fuse holder on the pass. side of car behind the front strut mount. Open the top of the holder and it will be empty, put in a fuse (10 or 20 amp or close) , this completes a circuit and shuts down the rear wheels. I don't know if the your 97 has this in the same place, but it must have one some place. hope this can help you.

Front right brake caliper locked up has abs


It's locked up as in the wheel won't spin? If that's the case, try breaking the bleeder screw open to relieve pressure. If that allows the wheel to turn now, there is a problem with the brake hose. If it doesn't the caliper will have to be replaced..

2006 Town & country makes clicking sound when breaking. Sounds as if coming from passenger side. Checked the front brakes & they're fine. They were repaced with new brakes & rotors 2500 miles...


As Chrysler says You may experience the following when the brake system go into Anti-lock.....The clicking of solenoid valves. When they changed the brakes did they damaged the ABS wheel speed sensor. It is mounted on the front axle on the back side of the brakes. Sensor & harness are one piece & must be replace toghter

What belt if breaks can cause the steering wheel to lock, and how complicated is to fix


That would be your power stearing belt. And it can be fairly difficult because all the belt and pulley are very close to the passanger side finder well.
