Question about 2009 Ford Escape XLT

1 Answer

2009 ford escape steering wheel is difficult to turn.

It takes a very long time after starting the vehicle for the steering wheel to losen. I often have to turn it on and off multiple times. Its unpredictable and after about 20 minutes the wheel becomes easy to turn after that long exercise of turning the vehicle off and on.

Your Power Steering pump is shot and I would replace the rack and pinion as well.

SOURCE: 2002 ford escape headlamp problem

Sounds like the headlight switch, The switch should have a built in relay that shuts them off if there is a short. The relay could be faulty.

SOURCE: I get a squeaking noise when i turn the steering

I have a 2002 Escape V6. I had a squeak when turning... even when standing still. It was fairly low mileage: 40,000 miles?
It was the outer tie rod. You could feel it squeak in your hand while someone else turned the steering wheel.
I disconnected the tie rod. I wasn't worn, just squeaky. I squirted a little WD40 inside the boot, and worked it in. Reassembled and squeak gone.
I bought a replacement tie rod, but never had to put it on. I'm now at 110,000 miles.

SOURCE: 2002 Ford Escape V6 XLT, problem w/ initial start in cold weather

Does the engine crank but just not start? Or... are you cycling the ignition switch without trying to crank the engine? Based on the information you have given, I would first guess that the fuel pump may be going out. I say this because when you first turn the key on the pump primes the engine with pressurized fuel. If the pump is getting old, it may take a few power cycles to get it going. You can test this theory by having somebody listen near the rear of the car while you turn the key on for the first time. The fuel pump make a faint, yet distinctive high pitch noise that can be heard when you turn the key on. Try that first. Next thing you would try is checking the relays for proper function... starting with the fuel pump relay. Good luck.

Steering wheel lack up wouldn't allow to start vehicle

The steering system could have tension in it when it locked. Try turning the steering wheel left or right and turning the key at the same time. It might take a little effort.

some vehicle s you can and others you cannot . It depends on the length of the axle from the cv joint as to be able to get it out of the stub section.. Sometimes removing the steering rod ball joint may allow extra turn of the wheel to pull it out but I doubt it.. Any workshop manual will tell the story.

possibly there is a air leak or a pocket of air in the hydrolic system try bleeding it losen one of the hoses so its just dripping start car and turnlock to lock a few times refill reservoir and do this again lock to lock the air should be gone if it still does it could be the steering box on it way out but this is unlikely hope this helps ivan

Believe it or not I have found that one key will start my 2009 Ford escape and the other will not-even after replacing the battery in the key. I though it was a dead battery or possibly the starter but it is the key. I haven't figured out how to get the key repaired. Thank God I had a spare one!

Ignition won't turn to start vehicle. Tapping on key works some time, and allows rotation

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, WITH NEW KEYS. IT CAN BE CHANGED STEERING WHEEL IN PLACE. REMOVE THE PLASTIC UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, TAKE A LOOK.
