Question about Chevrolet S 10

Throttle stuck wide open

It starts and runs fine but when I give it gas it sounds like the throttle is wide open. Sounds like it would if I put the gas to the floor but it accelerates normally just sounds loud.

It is a 2003 Chevy S10, my firend thinks the fan clutch is stuck and it is the fan that is making the noise.

that sound reasonable. You can open the hood and see. If the fan is running when the truck is cold, then you have a bad relay making the fan run continuously. Other than being hard on gas, and having little heat, it won;t hurt your truck. If you disconnect the battery for 15 min. than hook it back up and wait 15 more min\'s you can re generate the computer system , and fan should stop coming on continuously. It might also be cause by your temperature control module telling the computer that the truck is hot. Re generate the truck and let me know if and how this works for you

    I live in Canada and it is cold, the fan is comming on right away so I suspect it is what you stated. I will try the battery tonight and see what happens. If that doesn't fix the problem i'll look at the temperature control valve. More later and thanks;

I tried disconnecting the battery but that didn't work. I was wondering if I could disconnect the fan until I get a chance to look at it over the weekend. Also is there any way to tell if it is the sensor or the relay that is bad?

If you disconnect the temp. control sensor, the fan run continuously to protect the engine. That's why I think the TCS is bad. You can try to unplug it and see what happens, it won't hurt in the cold to run without a fan, just watch your temp, especially idling. not working.

If this is an electric fan, you can just unplug it, but I'm guessing you have a clutch fan? Is it built right on the motor? or incased in plastic on the rad. If it is on the rad, just unplug it. It's the clutch fan you won't be able to stop. Let me know what type of fan you have

    what year S10?

  • Albert Wilson Jan 10, 2013

Yes you are right it is a clutched fan assembly so I will have to have it replaced. I tried some lubricant to see if it would free it up but that didn't work. Thanks for your assistance.

Throttle cable could be binding or need cleaning take carburetor spray into throttle body around shaft area and throttle plate dont spray cleaner on the idle air control valve or tps sensor carburetor will damage electrical components.

SOURCE: 93 MX6 throttle body is Popping, loud, sounds like a diesel

Sounds like the pipe/connection from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve that is located at or near the throttle body has a leak. That would make a loud popping noise.

My 99 buick regal cranks over and starts but has trouble running. If you give it gas to help it through the start up it levels out and runs fine. Fuel pump is good, I've changed spark plugs and wires,

sounds like a stuck open EGR valve to me , take it off of a cool engine and spray some carb cleaner around the seat see if any leaks through to the other side. If it does The valve is bad. Also check out your throttle body for carbon and gumming. W/ engine off spray an appropriate carburator
cleaner into the opening and clean throttle plate and bore with a rag until shiney. put all the air cleaner hoses back together and hold throttle to floor momentarily until engine starts, then rev up half way and release throttle twice quickly, now allow engine to idle idle should be stable and smooth. If not then check for other sources of vaccume leaks.

The check engine light comes on and it will not accelerate. it will idle but when you give it gas it falters. if i shut the engine off and restart it it runs fine.

Sounds like TPS (throttle position sensor) it's not putting out a signal, when you step on the gas, it opens the throttle body, but the TPS isn't sensing this

1996 gmc runs full throttle when started

Check your throttle linkage at the throttle body if it is a gas engine see if it is stuck wide open. if it is a diesel check cable at injection pump.

After doing sum mechanical repair , Put everthing back together an started up an engine runs wide open with or without giving throttle

This sounds like part two of your other question....make sure throttle return spring is in place and that the throttle cable is free to move and not holding the throttle open. If you had the intake manifold removed, make sure it isn't leaking. If the idle was fine before you did whatever repair you made, most likely you have something put together wrong or left a hose off somewhere..

Engin stops sometimes when I slow down, usely starts back up and run fine. Now I am at home it starts then stops, now it turns over but will not start and run.

it has a dirty throttle body. get some carb cleaner and a tooth brush.remove air cleaner hose at the throttle body. block open throttle to wide open {engine off of course} or have someone hold it to the floor.spray cleaner into body and scub with tooth brush especially were the throttle plat touches the bore when at idle and the throttle plate itself.spray brush, spray, brush. put hose back on and start engine. you might have to give it some gas to atart it then its going to run rough for a few seconds but it will clear up.slowly lower foot from gas pedal and allow to idle.put in reverse let run in reverse for a few seconda do the same with drive.it has now began to learn what position the stepper motor should be in when throttle is not depressed.it may stumble a couple of times at sops but will soon correct itself

Hello i have a 2003 kia spectra, first i am very machanically inclined just not sure exactly could be wrong, car will start right up idle fine, but once you give it gas engine does not respond or rev up,...

check your w.o.t. (wide open throttle) paddle switch it is located in your intake (remove the airfilter hose and look inside engine side) it signals the computer (tells it the throttle air volume so the engine doesn't stall from too much air/ too little fuel
