Question about Cars & Trucks

Intermittent start, NO crank. Gets warm-hot won't restart, wait 10 min -hrs. Then starts right up.

Only lights on the dash, hear 1 click under the hood when you turn the key. Had it put on code reader- No Codes. Checked Battery, cables, voltage to all ignition lines, Changed, Ignition coil pack- no luck. Note, changed PCM in Aug2011, due to it stalled out driving (NO BUS) on dash. And Sept 2012- had to replace radiator cooling lines ( trams temp) light was on n leaking underneath, mechanics stumped. N been to like 4 mechanics!

When problem occurs, try tapping on starter ( if accessible ) while holding key in the crank position. If it starts, suspect a defective starter

Sounds like a bad starter or bad wire from the starter. When it gets hot it fails. Look at all wire to and from the starter, and have the selinoid on starter checked.I think that's where the problem lies. Let me know how you make out Starters can cause this

Won't restart in Warm Weather

The first thing you need to do is run the system for fault codes, any Autozone will do this for free, ask for a OBD2 fault code test. If no codes show check the fuel pressure next time this start problem occurs.

If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking, at the times when it won't start, and the relays are clicking and buzzing, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. ECU is likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Reasonably priced repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

I am having the same problem. did you figure out what was wrong with yours. I have tested all of the wires in the harness under the dash, they r fine. I pulled off the starter and had it tested; O'rilies said it was fine. It is a 5 speed, and I can push start the car just fine any time. Like yours, some days my car starts, some days it doesn't. The days it starts, it runs fine with no problems starting or running. the problem is the days that it wont start.

Mazda Tribute Intermittent Starting problem

I can think of 2 possibles,it could be a bad battery cable or an intermitent short in the starter solenoid, check or have the battery cables and there connections on both ends first not only are they a cheaper fix but the problem you describe sounds like a current flow issue.Test them with or have them tested with an ohmmeter they should show o ohms resistance, and while not attributed to the problem I do not reccomend using Bosch spark plugs of any variety, the best plugs for any Japanese vehicle are NGK's,this comes from my personal experience with them and other techs that I have worked with.
