1995 Toyota tercel keeps engine skipping when I am driving

Had a tuneup and new wires to the spark plugs still skips

    I also should state that we had a tuneup and also had the wires to the spark plugs replaced my husband drives this car to work we have had it since new only has 90,000 miles

New leads is good silly question the spark plugs were also replaced? Assuming this is the case next port of calls are the ignition coils then the injectors. Anecdotally if it very intermittent and is as car warns up probably coils if it is ever present look towards injectors. Once again check simple things first like battery condition, fuel filter, air filter.

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

What is wrong with my 1996 geo tracker ,it will not start in damp or rain days

but skipped spark plugs. (air and fuel filter ) finish the 60k mile tuneup?????
and are the tips, white, black, oil soaked, green , gas soaked?
shoe drops. but runs perfect other wise

if the 16v engine, says that on top, of valve cover
it has wells spark wells are they full of oil, that is the 60k tuneup
step that calls out valve lash checks and new gasket there.'
if they fill with water or oil , that will make starting hard.
there are 50 more ways, we dont guess, the tests and tools are easy and cheap.
got tools?

hard starts, ? basics.
  • low battery (for 3 reasons) = low spark energy.
  • low compression, skipping the 60k means the cam belt slipped.
  • bad spark , not doing a full 60k tuneup.
  • bad fueling. (too little or too much) "complex set of tests but scan it first"
  • EGR sticking open. clean it.
  • melted cat. (not your's, as it runs perfect otherwise)
  • lots more, i stop.

94 toyota spacia idles rough when in gear

94 gas engine? which one, (SIZE:?) and cylinder count.? 4?
this is called MISfire, AND IS caused by many things.
in gear what is in gear, the auto or stick trans, I cant guess that either.
Is this EFI fueling or in some far way country with old CARB?
we stopped carbs here about 1988. so... cant guess this either.
sure post country, that really helps, 1 in 100,000 hit rate on that.

sure bad spark is #1 cause of misfire! "a full tunejup"
but you skipped filters? (listed first, in tuneup list")
#2 on old engines like this is bad compression. 1 or more cyl.
#3 is bad fueling. (it can misfire flooding, or bog too lean)
too lean can misfire too,

i cant drive your car ,nor experience all modes of misfire.
so my answers will be all wrong, and wild guessing.
but Ill skip the guessing, ok 1 more, EGR leaks (that too is listed on the tuneup schedule as check EGR !)
i do the full tune up
it runs bad. still
i check spark timing , if way off the cam belt slipped....
5min. work that. just 5min. and omg wow;d timing jump 20 degrees retarded.?

i then check compression, it's and old engine, why skip this.?
the compression test is done wide open throttle, and will show
you if the engine even has some life left, say you get 170psi warm on all 4, and is spec. look like engine has future, so Ill invest repairs
if not , consider selling it (1hr work and speaks volumes on what to do next ,see?)
ok compression at spec.
now we have fueling,
you cant burn fuel with bad spark or bad compression so we arrive at fuelling, (complex)
ill stop here until you answer engine type, and fueling system
carb or EFI.
(3 possible diagnosis paths, carb, or speed or Air density EFI

Why does my 2.2 GMC skip or miss while driving?

If you have the same problem after the tuneup as before you may have an injector problem or possibly a mechanical one. Ie. valves, timing chain, valve train.

Why does my 1996 C1500 w/t keep stalling while driving...I changed the fuel filter, new battery, new fuel pump, new spark plugs..and 1 new spark plug wire that was bad.

why not all spark plug wires, they dont last the life of any engine.
and cap and rotor.
finish the full 60,000 tuneup and dont skip parts. is this hard?

stalls can be caused by many a thing the EFI works real hard to stop all stalls, and does so very well in 1996, (not now, due to throttle by wire BS)
96 cars are the best cars ever made, all of them.
it has OBD2 scan tool support. making it 10x easier to fix.
ever used a scan tool even a $9 fleabay tool works 100% on 19965 cars. Get one.

Now we do stalls. (engine size stated so will use generic answers)
  1. Lost 12vdc to the EFI system. (see scan tool go, NON COMM, at stall? and dash lights go dim or head lights go dim? ) easy this.
  2. EGR valve stuck open (if you have one) is #1 cause of EFI stalls.
  3. next is never doing a real 60k tuneup ever. so common we like to use crying towels. really. so sad to watch the pull gas tanks and pumps all for the lack of simple tuneup and simple tools.
  4. Gross Misfiring, any mech can drive the car and hear it and feel it.
  5. loss of fuel pressure. (bogs then stalls and no misfire shaking)
  6. Gross flooding. (many causes, we look for black spark plug tips. and other scan tool tests. (fuel trim )
  7. Ever scan it for DTCs at the stall?
  8. Ever scan it ever? for any DTCs ever? of any kind?
  9. serious engine problems, lost compression. (any cylinders or all)
there are tests for each one.
we do engine first
spark then fue
after a real 60k tuneup and it stalls. still.

no fuel can burn with no spark
no spark can run a bad engine.

Oil leaking into cylinder

"leaking into the top of the second cylinder on top of the spark plug wire
only this matter !! cure that.

some engines have spark well. are you saying the wells fill with oil?
if yes, you didnt buy a real valve cover sit, try FELPRO that
comes with the well seals , with kit.
skipping is misfire. if the boots get fill of oil, sure it will misfire, how can it not?

Are the plug leads on the right plugs. If you have mixed up the firing order, even on two plug you will have all kind of drama,

I have a 4.3 and 5 speed 4x4, the engine will miss under load, new gas tank and sending unit installed, looking at replacing fuel filter, any other ideas?

If you are missing, due to a cylinder failure, the fuel filter, sending unit and all of that affect all of the engine. If you get a "skip" under a load, you have a cylinder issue. You need to determine what cylinder. Try to throttle it up while applying the brake to keep it from moving in drive to see if you can get it to skip.
If it does, look at spark plugs to see if you can see what cylinder looks different.
Or...while someone is "power braking" and it's missing, remove a spark plug wire one at a time to see if the condition changes. If it doesn't change, that is your bad cylinder.
Then you need to determine if it's fuel, or spark that is the problem.
(Injector bad, or plug, or plug wire.)
