Get codes read at parts store or get friend with scanner to check them. Note: you should not smell fuel in throttle body as fuel never goes there. Could be bad crank sensor/cam sensor, fuse for ignition, module, others.

My car always smells like gas. The fuel filter was recently replaced.

Hi.

Check the fuel cap. It is often responsible for the problem. ICheck for leaks at the fuel pump, charcoal canister and throttle body. If there is no leak, then the fuel smell may be given by a too rich mixture. In that case you often have more problems because of engine flooding. Try doing a code scanning and see if there is any code stored (e.g. rich mixture, misfire, or indications of other problem. If problem is rich mixture you will smell gas at the exhaust. If mixture is too rich, check the sensors in the air intake (MAF, IAT) and temp sensor. If the problem is none of the ones I mentioned, check the EGR system. Recirculated gas smells the similarly to liquid fuel.

After running diagnostics for check engine light there are 2 fault codes P0449 and P0463. Auto Zone said I needed a new solenoid for $35 but I wasn't sure I could do it myself so I took it to a shop....

P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction, meaning There is air escaping from the gas tank. Often a problem with the gas cap, try tightening the cap, reset the code and see if it comes back on. Essentially it is testing for cracks in the tank.
so do that ,,, remove the cap and put it back tight,, if that code comes up again, just replace the cap, and they can test your old one at the parts store. the other code could be showing up because the computer is sensing a fuel problem, does the fuel gauge fluctuate ?

P0449 and P0455 error code 2008 2wd gmc envoy 30,203 miles

P0449 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

Both are refer at EVAP system; other EVAP DTCs: P0440 - P0441 - P0442 - P0443 - P0446 - P0453 - P0455 - P0456

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes: most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Hope helps.

My check engine light is on and I am getting codes P0449 and P0455. What is this and how do i fix it?

The p0455 is for a leak concern and if that was the only code I'd say give the cap a shot. However the p0455 is most likely just a side effect of the P0449. The P0449 is a test that is run on the vent solenoid circuit to check the electrical functions in basic terms. The computer is putting out voltage amount X and in a properly functioning circuit it knows it will see voltage amount Y come back. It isn't coming back as what it expects to come back at so there must be something electrically wrong with the vent circuit. And of course if the vent doesn't work you get a large leak. If we are just throwing parts at trucks the logical one for you is a vent valve. Since your Vue is a 2008, most likely there is a good chance that it's covered under the emission warranty which is 5 years.
Thank you for using fixya. and be safe.

p0443 is evaporative emission control system, purge control curcuit malfunction, p0449 is emission control system, vent control curcuit malfunction. p0449 is often a filler cap problem on fuel tank. try tightening cap

On a 96 toyota tacoma, coil packs are new, plugs replaced, timming is good. o2 sensor was bad also, but replaced, the engine runs perfectly smooth at idle, but under acceleration, or load, it misses, like...

Is there any check engine lights on?The throttle position switch could be a problem, but so can fuel pressure.Fuel pressure is what I would check.Battery voltage and charging voltage needs to be checked,Battery voltage of course should be 12 volts. The charging voltage should be 13.65 to 14.25,and the battery cables cleaned real good and shiny.Does the vehicle start good,or drag when starting?See if auto zone will read the codes for you,and tell you what they are,but don`t purchase any parts until you come back to this site to see what the codes can actually mean.If the o2 sensor showed lean, then it is possible that the fuel pressure is low, fuel pump replacement will be a must. I hope this was helpful, but need information,so do these things and return to the site.thank you.

Take throttle body off, clean Throttle Body with Carburator cleaner. I had same problem and its the ethynol in fuel that creates a build up in the throttle body which creates this problem. I did what a friend of mine said to do (service manager at Dodge Dealership) it hasnt happened again.
