Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1 Answer

1991 honda accord se

Runs great but every once and a while it feels as thou the automatic transmission is not fully engaged and will only go about 10-15 mph. it will run hot enough to melt the internal part of the cat converter but engine runs in normal temp and never over heats. Then car runs fine again. what would cause this? Something is causing the exhaust to over heat but not the motor and is melting the cat.

when checking for codes by jumpoing the blue connector, check engine light comes on and stays on, does NOT flash any codes. when the car feels like tranny not pulling, no check engine light comes on.

No rough idle, starts easy, tuned up last summer. No engine codes until cat plugs up from melting but engine never gets over temp. it runs and idles great up until it feels as the tranny is slipping extremely bad but is not the tranny as one has already put a new one in and it still does the same thing.

SOURCE: 1995 honda accord ex auxiliary cooling fan not engaging

The accy fan you are refurring to is actually the a/c consensor fan.The only time that fan operates is with the cycling of the a/c system.Verify by turning a/c on ,fan should come on & off with a/c cycles..

I have a 91 honda accord with an automatic trans. & when i shift into reverse it refuses to engage & makes a high pitch gear slipping grinding sound ! NOT GOOD ! ,I just replaced the transmission con

Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.

1991 honda accord idles funny and feels like its running hard at about 60 mph check engine light also comes on once i hit that speed

Remove the pass side kick panel (Plastic Part) that would be near the right of the passenger's foot. Locate a small blue plug. You jump the terminals together inside the plug with a paper clip. THEN, turn your key ignition on to power up everything but don't engage the starter. Count the amount of times the check engine light flashes. It's like morse code. A solid longer blink indicates the amount of the first number... a quicker flash will indicate the second number. Here's an example: ___ _ _ _ _ That would be code 14. Let me know what code you get and write back... I don't have room to list every code for 90-91 Accord. I'll check back frequently.

My tranny is slow shifting and the s light is blinking

The "S" light flashing means the speed sensor went out. Is an easy fix. I got mine for less than $40 and it was not hard to install. As for the gears going in too slow, I dont know. Good luck.

Manual transmission or automatic? Most likely this is the transmission vent. It may have had a short rubber hose hooked to it, 2 inches long. If this is the vent, it doesn't need the rubber hose on it to function.

Could be you dorked your transmission controller when you replaced the battery. Hope not. Did you hook it up backwards or something by mistake, even for a second?
