Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Vehicle performs well with engine light on
Engine light can be as simple as too much air getting past your gas cap, to a sensor gone . It could be anything . My light has been on for 2 years . The best thing to do is have a shop put it on a code reader. That will give you codes of everything in the vehicle that is wrong. You can pay a mechanic $100 to do it, or buy your own code reader at Wal-mart for $100. Then you look up the codes you get.Hope this answers your question please rate this solution

Have you taken it to your mechanic to run the diagnostics... I had the same issue and it turned out to be a vapor lock issue that required a gas tank gasket replaced.
