Question about 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD

99 Dodge 2500 Ram Diesel

This is in reply to my post on Jan. 18 2009. My truck quit running on the interstate etc... Anyway, i changed the fuel filter and heard the lift pump running. But there appears to be no fuel getting to the fuel cannister. I craked the line coming from the lift pump (while key turned on/bump start)into the fuel cannister to see if fuel would spray out...can hear lift pump running but no fuel...unfortunately i pulled the bed of my truck to get to the fuel tank module to test it. Thought maybe the filter might be clogged etc...wild goose chase i am afraid. Chalk that one up to friends in the garage with ideas/with Budweiser. anyway, busted the main fuel line output on the fuel tank module. Now i have to buy one of those. I think my next testing approach is the lift pump? thanks

I have a similar situation with low fuel pressure and an check engine light is on. I took it to the shop and here is what I have found out about dodge diesel 2500 fuel systems. They have two fuel pumps: a lift/transfer pump, fuel injector pump and a sending unit (for tank level). Original parts are $1800 for the injector pump and $145 for the transfer pump, $50 for a sending unit and around $400 (regulator, heater, injectors) in other parts if they need replacement. Price is high. I know that you should have 10 to 20psi at the fuel filter (idle is 13psi) but, could drop to as low as 5psi momentarily. Check turbodieselregister.com for more info.

99 Dodge ram 2500 with cummins diesel stalled and won't restart. Changed fuel filter, and determined that there is fuel going to injector pump.

loosen one fuel line to one of the injectors, try to start the truck and look for the fuel to spray out of the line. it should spray rather hard if the injector pump is working right. if it just dribbles or trickles out you have a weak pump.

I have a 1999 dodge 2500 cummings diesel truck that will idle but when I accelerate it acts like it is not getting enough fuel

  • First check the fuel filter and if the fuel filter is almost 6 months now is the time to replace it.
  • Then drain the fuel tank also.

I have a 1998.5 dodge 5.9 cummings diesel 24 valve factory stock, the fuel lift pump is not on engine or fuel lines, did dodge mount it in fuel tank?

It was located on the drivers side of engine close to fuel filter housing, but dodge has been selling and installing kits that change it to the in tank style for quite some time, so if not on block it must have been converted at some time.

Replace a fuel filter on 99 ram 2500. I have a cross beam that runs under front of tank, Also what typeof clamps are holding the lines to the pump.

E F I electronic fuel injection disconect. You get them from your local auto parts store, they slip over the line and you then slide them inside the female side of the connection then release the lines and it will pull right apart. I was just wondering is your truck diesel or gas

99 ram diesel wont start

Did you check to see if there is power to the glow plugs if not then that may be the problem and if there is power when you cycle the key not to start but for the plugs to warm up you may have a bad glow plugs.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LIFT PUMP OR POSSABLE FUEL RESTRICTION CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER ALSO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER IF THAT DOSENT FIX IT YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE OUT OF THE LIFT PUMP BEFORE YOU WASTE THE INJECTION PUMP

'99 dodge diesel won't stay running

You did not say if lift pump was delivering, so I am assuming it is not. When you pulled the fuel filter, was it full / under pressure? If not, lift pump most likely the problem. cracked fuel lines in system may also be the cause. I rec. replacing lift pump, if that does not solve problem, look for cracks / breaks in fuel line prior to lift pump.
