Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

Honda metropolitan transmission seems to be slipping. Also it seems to stay in gear when stopped. upon acceleration, it makes a loud grinding noise before smoothing out.

Anyone have any ideas? I already changed the gear oil, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

SOURCE: seems transmission gear shift problem

Pull the distick and smell the oil. If it's discoloured (black or dark brown) you know the transmission friction plates are burnt and needs a rebuilt.

SOURCE: Have a winding sound coming from transmission.

I do not believe there is a DIY solution to this problem, You could try Lucas brand transmission fix. Would only help the problem temporarily. You may have a band in the xmsm going out, or a shift valve. I know 45000 miles does not seem like much on a rebuild, but something is going on inside the case. The Lucas xmsn fix is really thick fluid and it sticks in the valves and makes them fill faster to get to the next gear, or as I understand it, may fix whining for awhile, but when it returns you will have to take it to a transmission shop.

Loud screeching noise coming from car after stops.

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.
