Question about 1998 Volkswagen Jetta
My driver's side exterior door handle is broken. I bought the new handle and it needs to be installed. I need to know how this is done exactly. Do I remove the whole door panel or not? I would like the entire step by step process.
There is only one screw holding the door handle in, the screw is right on the inside of the door. Its right above where the door attaches to the door.

SOURCE: How do I remove the door panel?
the door handle pops off with a small screwdriver....the part on the door panel where you grab to pull it shut....then there are 2 screws behind there and 3 screws on the bottom....the door lifts off.

You'll see a small ring on the inside of the crank where it meets the panel. That ring holds the crank in place. To remove the handle simple push the ring up and the handle will slide right off. Depending on the position of the crank the ring might have to be pushed up down or sideways. Hope that helps.

remove wipers. remove plastic covering by loosening plastic screws first. unplug wiper motor wires. there are about three 10mm nuts at the motor location and you also have to unscrew the big nuts that were below the wipers when you unscrewed them. replacement is reversal.

here is a diagram of how to unistall your door panel. please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya today.
Driver's Side Door
NOTE This procedure is for models with power windows. If equipped with manual windows, refer to the procedure for the Passenger Side Door Panel.
NOTE Do not grasp in grip depression when pulling off grip recess, as there is a strut secured to door trim underneath.
Insert a suitable prytool in lower partition between the panel (1) and grip recess (2)
Unclip the grip recess (2) upward out of door trim. Do NOT reach into grip depression while doing so, to prevent damage to brace (1). Then , press the locking lug against the connector (3 – arrow) and pull it off
Unfasten the 7 bolts (arrows). Use pliers to unclip the door trim (1) at the sides, then lift the trim up out of the window recess
Unclip the cable guide (1) using a prytool (2), pull out the bracket (3) in the direction of the arrow, then unhook the cable hook (4)

Pull off the window recess seal (1) from door trim and insert in window recess
