Help with serpentine belt

    the diagram is no where on the truck or in the manual. would have been done 3 hours ago if it was. f250 1992 7.3 diesel serpentine belt

    thats not it. looking at engine on right is power steering and above is a/c alternator is on left by itelf water pump in middle and c/s under. tensioner is just left of a/c

Release the tensioner bolt to put the belt in tension.

If the tensioner is stiff you can use a rubber hammer to push the tensioner further.

You should find the diagram under the hood, in front of the radiater. If it has been removed the next best step would be to invest $16 in a manual from your local auto parts store or have the dealer fax you a copy from a repair manual.

Go to this sit. Just past half way through you will see 7.3 diesel belt diagrames. Find the right one and follow the picture to install belt.

These sometimes require special tools to put on it might be best just to give the new belt to a mechanic to throw on in 2min for maybe $20 SHOULDNT COST VERY MUCH if you bought the belt already just for them to pput on

    need a 3/8 drive ratchet, place that in the front of the tensioner and
    remove the belt, but dont take it completely out. and there will be
    just one bolt holding it on, its either a 13 or 15mm, i can never
    remember. when reinstalling it make sure the alignment dowel is lined
    up.

    I forgot it was the 7.3 diesel so,
    First, release the tension on the belt with a 1/2" breakover or ratchet
    to remove the belt. You don't need a socket, the square part is what is
    needed, there is a square hole for it. Then simply take a (I believe a
    15mm but I know its metric) socket or wrench and unscrew the bolt and
    the whole thing should come off the front of the engine.

Cant find the diagram start from bottom middle to right it goes under crankshaft, under and around water pump, under and over Power steering pump, under vacuum pump if equipt, over a/c compressor. Now Bottom middle at crank to left, over idler, under tensioner, over alternator, and under idler at top.

    Ok to make it simple, Most routes is start under crank, then weave in and out. It like Crank Under, next over, then under. But Almost always its under at the tensioner. Let me know if that helps

    k my F-250 dually is a 351 gas its set up is bottem middle crank, and to the right. under cank, over vacuum, over ac, under tension, over ac, over ps, over and around water pump. I know this is a bit differ but maybe it might help

    by what you say is your set up i think i got it, under crank go left under and around water pump, around alt. under tensioner, over ac over Power steering. does this sound rignt to you??

    if you are say your right side when you are looking at engine, then there is only 2 ways. Under crank, (go to your right) around water pump, under power steering, over A/C, under tension, over alt.

    The other way

    Under crank, (to your right) over Power steering, over A/C, under tension, over alt, under and around water pump.

    If you mean that the equipment in on the other side, then just flip it.

    which way was right? you need to take a rachet or breaker bar and fit it in the square hole of the tensioner and if its monted on top then push down on breaker bar to release tension.

    There is usually 1 bolt in the middle of the tensioner. Remove the bolt and it should pull right off.

If you mean the routing... open the hood of the truck... on the upper part of the hood or somewhere in the engine compartment you should see a sticker with that information...

    two different belt lenghts for single alternator vs. dual alternator...

    More importantly... in the single alternator setup, the upper radiator hose must be removed to change the belt.

    While you're in there, you can replace the upper radiator hose with the part designed for the dual alternator setup. It is a slam dunk one-for-one swap that makes future serp belt changes much simpler. The dual alternator setup does not route the upper rad hose inside of the serp belt.

    the tensioner unbolts from the block... i believe there are three bolts holding it on... you can get one at a wrecking yard cheap or the dealer (not so cheap)

How do you get serpentine belt off?


Hope this helps:

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
  2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Make sure the belt is routed properly

First off---Have you looked under the Hood for the Factory Belt Routing Sticker? If not there look in the Owners Manual. If not there let me know so that I can Locate you one.
