Change the in ignition module box that operates your spark and fuel this little box is most common for going bad it controls both spark and fuel had this problem many times before and when it goes completely bad you will be stuck on the side of a highway somewheres or in a parking lot or driveway i though it was a fuel pump problem and then i replaced that and cap and wires and spark plugs still nothing then i looked at this little box some are located under the hei distributor cap and some are located on the engine bracket it will have 2 wire plug connectors at each end of it with 2 chort screws holding it in place near the coil pack ok i replaced that and mine started up and stayed running hope this helps you out have a nice day!

Sounds like you replaced alot of parts for nothing.
The pickup coil in the distributor "fires" the module which grounds the coil and the injectors.
Those components would need to be tested. The coil fires the plugs when the ground is removed by the module or the key switch.

Take off the distributor cap. Check the star wheel that is splined to the distributor shaft that the pick-up coil uses. Make sure this wheel is not loose on the distributor shaft. It is right above the pick-up. If it is loose, replace the distributor. This is a common problem. If it needs one, all the part stores stock the distributor.

Locate the fuel pump relay

Look in the glove box for a panal that pops out their should be 3 or 4 relays behind it and the cover will say relay center or something similar to that .
But to be honest with its likely the fuel pump it self . The normal life of the pump for Chevys is about 10 years..
They also back up the relay through the oil pressure sending unit so if the relay went say on the highway the pump would still get power through a connection from the pressure unit .
The pump is inside the tank it has to come down to replace the pump.
Good Luck with it

1998 chev 1500 hard starting when cold but starts fine after warming up changed plugs and sensors

The first thing i would tey is changeing the fuel filter. Chevy has a problem with the design from the fuel pump to the fuel inlet on the intake manifold. What they did it is back up the power supply to the fuel pump from the fuel relay and split the curicut and ran the back up through the oil pressure sending unit . So even if the relay went bad while driveing the fuel pump would still get power and the truck wouldn't die on the road its a saftey thing .But if the relay is bad then the engine needs to build up enough oil pressure to trip the oil sending unit to send power to the pump from cranking thus a long cranking time when cold . Change the fuel filter first it should be replaced every 4 to 5 years anyway . A nd if that dosn't fix it try the relay it should be behind a panal inside the glove box on your truck and if that dosn't work replace the oil pressure sending unit. One of these 3 things should work if the fuel pump is working correctly

1998 chevy 1500 pick up. good fuel pump, new fuel filter, fuel relay good. starts good, dies instantly. what to check next.

If your fuel system is all correct and working it needs to be an ignition problem-and the usual suspect is the crank sensor, which coincidently does not set a CEL-so, since it is very inexpensive (usually less than $50) and not difficult to change int a 350, take a chance there-you could try to remove the connector and clean off the connection first-worth a shot.

98 chevy 1500 starts and then shuts right off have replaced fuel pump and filter ,crank sensor, cam sensor ,oil sen. coil, ign.mod and PCM

On some chevys the oil pressure sending unit closes the circuit to continue the fuel pump to run after start. In the event of a wreck ,the car stops running thus no oil pressure thus turns off power to the fuel pump .A safety to help prevent fires. When you first start the car, the computer turns on the fuel pump for about 20 seconds just enough time to start and allow the oil pressure sending unit to close the circuit to allow it to continue running. when the car car has NO oil pressure or the sending unit fails ,it will start then shut down..as many times as you try to start. replace the oil pressure sending unit and secure a good conection. 1994 s10 4 by 4 blazer ,eng/ 4.3 v6 with tpi / auto ////// car does run , battery went dead , replaced with a new battery. tried to start the car , it had been sitting for 3 weeks,,....

I'm assuming it won't start now with the new battery..
they do sometimes flood, but not usually unless there's a regulator problem, etc..
but try starting fluid into intake 1st.
If it starts and runs, then proceed..
You'll have to start by checking if the fuel pump is running with key to ON 1st and foremost.
the power to pump.
If so, then check for fuel pressure
then power to spark/coil, etc..
then spark
then other..
even Temp sensor switch...(check wiring diagram in Haynes repair manual)
too much to check from there on if no start still

I'm not an expert, just tryin to help from much experience with Chevys

99 yukon 180,000 mi. doesn't start. cranks forever, but won't start. Should I be able to hear the fuel pump when I turn on the key?

yes you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for about 5 seconds once the key is turned to the on pos. check to make sure you have spark. if you do try having someone spray air intake or carb cleaner into intake manifold while you crank. If the truck starts right up for a second (or stays running as you keep spraying) Id say you have a bad fuel pump and id change the sending unit also. (First check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay) GMC and Chevy are nororiously known for having bad fuel pump/sending unit problems. I have prob changed over 60 myself.
