Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre
I have a 1997 5 sp camaro. when i shift from 1st to second sometimes it does not go into second, seems to stay in neutral. im not sure if it is going into second and popping out or if it never actually shifts into second.
when it does this and i try to shift it again it goes into 2nd and does not pop out at all. it doesn't do it everytime, and seems to do it more if you shift under 3000 rpm. also there is no bad noise like grinding or anything.
it shifts fine from 3rd to 2nd and no trouble shifting into any other gears. my mom drove it and she didn't have the problem, but she give's it alot more gas and runs the rpm higher before shifting gears.
some one just recently gave me the car so i have no idea how long its been like this.
That is called a skip shift. I have a 97 also when you shift at low rpm it skips second as a gas saver but is really just a pain. I found a skip shift eliminator kit in jegs or summit cant quite remember but all you do is plug it in to the skip shift solenoid and and it eliminates it.

Check your trans fluid to see if it's low!
Jiffy Lube or any quick oil change place will usually do this for a reasonable fee.
If this doesn't help get back to us!
For the time being try running in 1st gear to near the red line and shifing directly from 1st to 3rd!
Hope this is helpful!

It needs some work to be done in gearbox, worn selector detent ball or weak spring.
