Do you have to replace the main ground cable on the battery with the same kind if so do you have the part #

One thing to check would be the ground cable from the battery, make sure it is still connected to the battery and the other end is connected to its ground bolt. If it all looks connected it could be cracked somewhere so try using a new wire.

Firstly, take note of your radio codes then get a small motorcycle battery and make up or buy a jumper plug that goes in your cigar lighter socket, ensuring you have the polarity correct. This will keep any codes alive when you disconnect the main battery. Make sure the ignition key is OUT because the cigar socket won't take any current. Remove the negative cable first. Then the positive. Replace the positive cable from the battery to starter terminal or where ever its fitted. Replace the negative / ground cable ensuring a good clean ground is made. When both cables are properly clipped up as per the original arrangement then reattach the Positive first, then the Neg or ground next. Remove your temporary battery from the cigar socket and with a bit of luck your radio codes should be good. Take your time and check out how difficult it is to reach the starter terminal connection before you start. Some are a bi*ch.

1. Check positive/negative battery cables at battery-- no corrosion wanted and tight clamp.

2. check + battery cable at starter and wires at starter solenoid.

3. check - battery cable ground connection point.

4. check main power fuse/fusible link.

tighten and or replace cables.

Unless I am missing your question, there is no main ground.
The battery cable is grounded to the engine and the engine has a ground cable back to the body or frame. That cable may also have a smaller wire going to a body ground. The car uses the body to connect ground cables to for components to get power back to the battery.

The ground strap is the main engine ground. When you try to start the vehicle there is power available to the starter but since the starter uses the engine for a ground and the engine uses the ground cable to ground itself to the battery and that cable is no longer in tacked you have an open circuit. Fix or replace that cable and at least one if not both of your problems should be solved.

yes becuase what you have don is one of the computers main components is not grounded do this take the tire you splice clean it off and ground it straight to the chassis and this should fix the problem hope this helps they are grounds to the computers

It appears your battery is not properly connected or your main ground cable is bad or your main power cable is loose or has a bad connector downstream from the battery. First check the battery cables first to make sure the cables are tight. Make sure the battery posts are not reversed (red to +) and black ground cable to -. Try a set of jumper cables from another car and if that works you know it's still a problem with your battery. Also, you could have a bad main fuse starter relay out in the large main fuse distribution panel under the hood, but I do not believe this would affect headlights, inside lights, door warnings, etc. What you are describing is what you would experience if the battery is totally dead (drained from leaving inside lights on for example).

What actually happened was because the engine wasn't properly grounded your throttle cable became the ground. As it is not heavy enough to carry the amperage, it got hot and melted. The repair is easy...Just make sure you have a good heavy ground wire on the battery, attached to the engine block, and another between the block and the firewall. Obviously, you need to change the throttle cable and also check the shift cable as well.
