Car runs in neutral, when i put it in drive, the car runs 1.5 or 2 blocks and shuts down. i wait 2 minutes and it start right up and does the same again

Hopefully, a transmission shop is only a few shut downs away. You need it checked for a mechanical problem or an electrical problem. An electrical fix is a lot cheaper than a rebuilt transmission, hundreds less., in fact.

I have a 05 Chevy Malibu Maxx. In aug of 09 we had a rebult tranny put in it. I have put 28,000 miles on it since then and now my mechanice is telling me the up down switch in the tranny is bad? The first...

Sorry to say that when you get a rebuild on a transmission they don't replace everything. Most transmission rebuilds are just the solenoids or seals or the whole solenoid package with a new converter. Few times do they go in and replace hard parts. And if they do, you really pay for it ($3000.00+) . And I personally have never heard of an up/down switch?? I would also check for the warranty on the transmission. Some rebuilds come with 3 year unlimited mileage. call them personally, don't let the mechanic do it.

It starts up but when you put it in drive it shuts off completly

I believe your torque converter is going out. See with an automatic transmission, a torque converter does what a clutch does in a manuel transmission. It allows the engine to continue to run when the car is at a stop by diconnecting the engine from the transmission. It sounds as though your torque converter is not functioning properly and it is causing your car to stall out. Hope this helps, and let me know how it works out for you!

94 Chrysler Concorde Tranny Problems

Have your transmission oil filter changed;
it is located under the transmission pan
The oil is what makes the transmission shift
When you shut off the engine it stops the transmission pump then when you start up again the transmission shifts until the filter clogs again

1998 GMC surburban transmission, runs fine when first started up

Sounds like clutch material is clogging your filter and you are losing pressure.You can try a trans flush and new filter but that would be just a band aid.What happens is the clutch fibers clog the filter and whed you shut it down they fall off but when you start it up again they get sucked back in and it clogs again.
