If your still having this problem after replacing all of that you either have a short on that wire or on the starter after the solenoid. I would check the starter.

Have you checked the starter solenoid? Replace this and see if you're getting fire then. They are usually suspect and the first link in the chain between your battery and the distributor.

You need to confirm that there is battery voltage to the battery post of the alternator. If there is then turn the key on and verify that there is power to the field post.If you have no power to the field it will not charge, you either plugged the regulator in before you put it on and ruined the regulator or you may have a bad wire splice between the alternators battery wire and the yellow wire in the regulator plug, check to see if it has 12volts to it at all times. If none of the above, run your own 10 gauge ground wire from the alternator to the block or the have the new alternator tested.

At the transmission. About half round, usually 2 of 3/8" or 7/16" short bolts holding it on if I remember correctly. You'll see wire harness going into it.

1977 f 100 carging problem

run a jumper from your alternator to your battery. This is a temporary fix and should stabilize the voltage and charge the system. It seems there is a short or grounding problem somewhere between the alternator and battery, so you will need follow the wiring but given the age of the vehicle, you should change the wiring from your generator or alternator to your battery. Be sure when you are running a jumper, your gauge wire is heavy enough and make sure the wire isn't hot. This is a temporary fix so don't go on a long road trip.
